Carillon Miami Wellness Resort

The 150-suite Carillon Miami Wellness Resort is a luxury wellness property located on Miami's North Beach. Apartment-style rooms come with kitchens, washer/dryers, and beautiful, big bathrooms with showers and separate tubs. Free superlative wellness features include a 75,000-square-foot spa with a top-notch thermal circuit, over 200 exercise classes, and wellness workshops. Other freebies include beach loungers and umbrellas, a fitness room, and two-story rock climbing wall. There are also four pools, including a rooftop pool, and three eateries with health-focused menus; even bars serve organic cocktails. The luxe Fontainebleau Miami Beach also boasts a good spa, but also has an on-site nightclub and kids' club.

Nobu Hotel Miami Beach
4525 Collins Ave

The luxury, 206-room Nobu Hotel Miami Beach is set within the Eden Roc resort right by beautiful Miami Beach. The eponymous Japanese restaurant is certainly a highlight -- sushi is excellent and room service is available 24/7. There’s also a poolside option serving healthy, organic food, as well as a lobby bar and coffee shop. Additional features are equally impressive, especially the lovely spa with its 18 treatment rooms, hydrotherapy circuit, and wealth of treatments. There are also three outdoor pools and a large gym decked out with top-notch equipment, plus families are catered to with a kids’ club. Rooms are chic and spacious, equipped with solid amenities like 60-inch flat-screens, Nespresso machines, and minibars, plus luxe, large bathrooms. For a similar luxury experience in South Beach, consider The Setai, Miami Beach.

Hilton Cabana Miami Beach
6261 Collins Avenue

Opened in June of 2014, the 231-room Hilton Cabana Miami Beach is an upper-middle-range hotel on 63rd St. and Collins Ave in North Beach. Retro guest rooms and suites have pops of color, flat-screen TVs, iHome docking stations, and (in some cases) balconies. As some rooms face a wall, ocean-view and oceanfront rooms are worth the upgrade. Amenities include a wide beachfront with loungers and umbrellas (for a fee), two swimming pools, a French-inspired restaurant, two bars, and a 24-hour fitness center. But the hotel is far from the nightlife found farther south, so it's best for families or couples seeking a beach stay. Those who'd rather be in South Beach should compare rates with the more upscale Redbury South Beach, often only slightly pricier.

Winter Haven, Autograph Collection
1400 Ocean Dr

A member of Marriott's Autograph Collection, the 70-room Winter Haven is a upper-middle-range hotel located across from the beach, on a quiet but still central stretch of Ocean Drive. Access to the Blue Moon's pool five blocks away, free beach chairs, and free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel makes the Winter Haven a solid value -- and contemporary guest rooms make it a stylish pick as well. For a similar boutique with larger rooms, check out the Edgewater South Beach next door.

Ocean Reef Suites
1130 Collins Ave

The 34-room Ocean Reef Suites is a centrally located mid-range hotel within walking distance of the beach. Rooms are large and have small kitchen areas with microwaves, coffeemakers, mini-fridges, portable burners, and toasters; however, some guests complain that some rooms have a musty smell and suffer from loud street noise. The Flow Cafe offers healthy dishes for breakfast through dinner and there's a 24/7 convenience store on-site with snacks, drinks, and pastries. Freebies include hotel-wide Wi-Fi and a free airport shuttle. There's no pool or self-park lot; guests have the option of parking on the street or paying extra for valet service.

Villa Paradiso
1415 Collins Ave

The 17-room Villa Paradiso is an exceptionally located boutique hotel within walking distance of many of South Beach's attractions, bars, restaurants, and shops. Charming rooms are functional and come with hardwood floors and fully-equipped kitchens, although some have small bathrooms. Amenities are limited, there is a courtyard area with comfortable seating and plants and the hotel offers concierge services, free Wi-Fi, and free beach towels. However, there's no on-site parking and the lack of elevators may prove problematic for guests with compromised mobility.

The Hotel of South Beach
801 Collins Avenue

The Hotel Of South Beach is a 73-room boutique hotel located in lively South Beach, just a block from the coast. Modern rooms all come with Keurig coffeemakers and large bathrooms, some with whirlpool tubs. However, thin walls have led to plenty of complaints from past guests, and light sleepers should definitely bring earplugs. Features include multiple bars, a restaurant with a free buffet breakfast on Friday and weekends, a lovely rooftop pool, and a well-equipped fitness center with a great selection of free weights. It's a good value for an upscale hotel, with rates that are usually lower than at the comparable Dream South Beach or Gale South Beach.

Hotel18
230 18th St, corner of James Avenue

The 46-room Hotel 18 is a mid-range value property one block from the sandy shores in South Beach. The studios and one-bedroom apartments all have kitchens, making them suitable for longer stays, and some have sofa beds. The hotel has a pretty courtyard with comfy patio furniture and offers parking, a business corner, and laundry machines. There is convenient free Wi-Fi, but some of the room furnishings are plain or even a touch dated. The similarly priced Tradewinds Apartment Hotel has slightly nicer kitchen-equipped suites, but it's slightly farther from the South Beach action.
