Bottom Line

This four-pearl, seven-room riad is located in Fes' atmospheric old town. It's a two-minute walk from the main gate, making it a good base for exploring the medina. The historic 13th-century building was lovingly restored in 2006, blending traditional Andalusian style with modern amenities. Every room has been individually decorated, and all include air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, and minibars. Though the riad lacks a hammam, it has a small indoor pool, sun terrace for tanning, and a bar that serves alcohol. There are two restaurants, with one offering breathtaking rooftops views of the medina. A free continental breakfast is served daily, and Wi-Fi is free throughout the property. Travelers preferring to be outside the medina should consider rates at the Hotel Sahrai, which adds an outdoor pool and spa.

Riad Andalib

Scene

Beautifully restored Andalusian riad with a romantic vibe

This historic building dates all the way back to the 13th century, which almost guarantees plenty of traditional charm. After a six-year restoration, it opened in 2006 as an elegant Andalusian riad. Though the structure has been updated, it still has some authentic features, such as hand-carved archways and a towering central patio that wraps around a traditional fountain, where guests can have breakfast or an evening meal. The decor is traditionally Andalusian, with tadelakt walls, mosaic tile flooring, hand-crafted lamps and lanterns, and colorful stained-glass windows. There are several areas to relax and take a break, such as a cozy lounge with velvet textured cushions and a fireplace, and a cool rooftop terrace that overlooks the bustling medina. Despite its close proximity to the medina, this hotel is quiet and tranquil -- the call from the nearby mosque only adds to the convincing effect. This riad attracts mostly mature couples or families, with young children congregating around the pool from time to time.

Location

In the old town of Fes, a two-minute walk from the central medina

The Riad Andalib is located in the Andalusian quarters of Fes' old town. Fes has remained unchanged since the 12th-century, displaying an abundance of old-world charm. Known for its walled medina, Fes el-Bali, the area is awash with bustling souks and ancient architecture. Many historical monuments are within easy walking distance from the riad, such as the Kairouine Mosque and Seffarine Medersa, which are around a 10-minute walk away. The riad itself is situated in a well-lit area that's a two-minute walk from the medina's main gate, with taxis, buses, and a grocery store right outside. It is accessible by car, despite the city being a no-car zone. Fes-Saiss Airport is around a 30-minute drive from the riad, while Fes Railway Station is a 15-minute drive.

Rooms are brought up-to-date with excellent modern amenities, which include free Wi-Fi, 32-inch flat-screen TVs, safes, phones, minibars, and air-conditioning. Features

Indoor pool, two restaurants, bar serving alcohol, free breakfast and Wi-Fi

Whlie the Riad Andalib has a decent number of features for such a small property, the lack of a traditional hammam is worth noting. One of the highlights is a bright sun terrace with stunning rooftop views, stylishly lined with padded sun loungers that are ready-made for tanning. A small pool is located in the central patio, though the corrugated roof means that it gets no direct sunlight for sunbathing. There is a restaurant in the patio, El Andalib, which serves Moroccan cuisine around a traditional central fountain. A generous free breakfast is served here daily, consisting of eggs, pancakes, pastries, fresh fruit, coffee, and tea. A second restaurant, El Panorama, is located on the picturesque rooftop terrace and serves Moroccan gastronomic cuisine. The riad also has two bars serving alcohol, which is something of a rarity in Fes. One bar is located by the pool, and the other on the rooftop terrace. Other services include concierge, tour assistance, transfer services for a fee, and a welcome drink. Wi-FI is free throughout the property.
