Bottom Line

The upper-middle-range Monta Verde Hotel & Villas manages to stand apart from the competition with its solid list of amenities and modern rooms, though the beach and main strip aren't within walking distance. Thanks to only 60 rooms, it has a personal feel, enhanced by visits by the owners and guests who return year after year. Rooms are stylish and equipped with outdoor spaces, basic minibars, and air-conditioning, but safes cost extra. Features include three pools -- one adult-only -- a small spa withTurkish bath and gym. Food and drinks are available at two restaurants and a poolside bar, receiving positive reviews for quality and variety. For a more central location, consider the all-inclusive Alize Hotel, though the dining isn't up to the same standards as Monta Verde.

Monta Verde Hotel & Villas

Scene

A warm, welcoming atmosphere with quiet areas

The Monta Verde Hotel & Villas creates a warm and comfortable environment for guests with its quirky decor, inspirational signage, and intimate atmosphere. Many guests -- typically British or Turkish -- are repeaters, who rave about the hospitality and presence of the owners. The villas have whitewashed facades with Mediterranean-blue accents, and more splashes of color throughout. The cozy living room-like lobby has has shabby chic decor consisting of a green tufted front desk, neutral-tone couches with floral throw pillows, and quirky objects such as masks and a painted black cat along the walls.

Families may not find as many youth-related activities as some of the other area hotels offer, but there are a pool and scheduled entertainment. Individuals and couples can find peace and quiet at the adult-only silent pool, which has loungers in the sun and wicker seating under a wooden covering draped with bougainvillea. There are plenty of additional places for relaxing on the pretty grounds such as in hammocks, daybeds, or wooden chairs and tables with checkered tablecloths.

Rooms

Attractive, modern rooms with outdoor spaces

The 60 rooms are modern and attractive, with varying color schemes by category. Standard Rooms have white wood furniture, tile floors, and pops of turquoise in the bedding, drapes, and accent walls. They're small but functional, with doors that lead out to a tiny balcony with stools. Deluxe Rooms are done in soothing neutral colors with floral bedding, tufted headboards, and stylish white furniture. Balconies are larger and have chairs. Family Rooms have two separate sleeping areas.

For practicality, amenities across the board include televisions, minibars stocked with soda, beer, and water, and air-conditioning. Wi-Fi is free and higher-category rooms also include tea- and coffee-making facilities. Safes are also available (either in-room or in the lobby) but these require a fee. Bathrooms are generally small, equipped with showers, wall-mounted hairdryers, soap, and shampoo dispensers.

The Monta Verd also offers villa-style arrangements with two or three bedrooms, living areas, kitchens, and larger terraces, located on the ground floor. These spaces can sleep up to six guests. The kitchens are fully equipped and guests can also use a barbecue grill on the patio to prepare their meals.

Features

Lovely pool areas, popular restaurant, spa services, and small gym

There aren't a ton of kid-centric facilities here, but there are plenty to keep adults and kids busy. The main pool is a lovely kidney-shaped pool, surrounded by lounge chairs and umbrellas, plus a poolside bar and shaded pool for toddlers are nearby. A rectangular-shaped, adult-only pool is considered a silent pool and it, too, has lounge chairs and umbrellas, as well as seating.

The Orange Spa and Bath is decorated in a 70s-era orange color, and has multiple rooms for massages, plus a sauna and a pretty Turkish spa designed in traditional white and gray marble. The adjacent small fitness center is aptly named the Mini Gym, and equipped with some cardio equipment and a few weights. The hotel lacks a kids' club, but entertainment is provided and consists of karaoke, dancing, and live music.

The Deck Restaurant and Bar is the creme de resistance for whimsy architecture and shabby chic decor. The white walls and neutral floor boards fade are offset by the colorfully painted wall insets, quirky patchwork tablecloths, and multi-colored chairs. Food here receives excellent reviews. The somewhat small main buffet restaurant is decorated in the same folksy tradition, but with a red, blue, and white color scheme.
