Daisy Resort

Duong Dong, Phu Quoc Island

The charming 45-room Daisy Resort is one of the best deals in the area. The serene boutique hotel sits on lush hillside grounds and offers a remarkable range of freebies, like a daily breakfast buffet (with made-to-order eggs and fresh fruit), shuttle service (to the beach, night market, and airport), fast resort-wide Wi-Fi, use of bikes, and, in high season, cooking and yoga classes. The 45 rustic rooms all feature natural wood furniture, terra-cotta floors, high ceilings with exposed wooden beams, awesome outdoor bathrooms, and patios with balconies. In-room amenities like electric kettles with free tea and coffee (replenished daily) and free water are standard. Minibars are stocked with beer, sodas, waters, and energy drinks. The Daisy is the best all-around property in this price range, but travelers with mobility issues may want to look elsewhere, as there are plenty of stairs throughout.

Sea Sense Resort

Phu Quoc Island, Vietnam

With its lovely beach, cute bungalow-style rooms, and beautiful restaurant built on stilts directly over the sea, Sea Sense Resort is quite nice for the price (and having opened in 2014, it still feels reasonably fresh). Rates are competitive for the category, and tend to be lower than at similar hotels closer to Duong Dong and the airport; they include Wi-Fi, breakfast with Vietnamese and international options, and free use of kayaks and bicycles. Guests staying two or more nights get free airport pickup service. The bungalow-style rooms at Thanh Kieu Beach Resort are cheaper, though that hotel lacks a pool. Sea Sense and Daisy Resort are in the same price range, and both have infinity pools and rooms with outdoor bathrooms, but Daisy is the better pick overall, thanks to its rustic charm and long list of freebies.

Thanh Kieu Beach Resort

Duong Dong, Phu Quoc Island

Thanh Kieu Beach Resort isn't as nice as Daisy or as secluded as Sea Sense, but this simple and charming property offers a great value overall. It has 40 spacious and clean rooms, two restaurants with reasonable prices, and lovely beach that's an easy walk from a handful of casual restaurants and cafes. Each room is housed in a cute bungalow with a pleasant patio and outdoor bathroom -- offer a semi-unplugged vacation, with no TVs or phones. The hotel does offer free Wi-Fi, though. A nice breakfast spread complete with made-to-order eggs and fresh fruit is served daily at the garden restaurant, and lunch and dinner are available at the beach bar at reasonable rates. Thanh Kieu doesn't have a spa or pool, and loaner bikes cost a fee (they're free to use at Daisy and Sea Sense).

4

Sea Star Resort Phu Quoc

Duong Dong, Phu Quoc Island

The 78-room Sea Star Resort is a friendly, beachfront budget hotel, a 15-minute walk from the center of Duong Dong. Its rooms -- some of which are housed in cute bungalows -- are simple, with generic decor in dark brown hues, and basic amenities such as air-conditioning, older flat-panel TVs, minibars, and electric kettles. The pool is pleasant and relaxing, with serene sea views and a few loungers, and the beach offers great sunset views. The restaurant serves average Vietnamese and international fare, while a thatched bar keeps drinks flowing during the day at the beach. The property is one of the top picks in Phu Quoc for tour operator TUI, and it can feel overrun with groups at times. Neighboring Thanh Kieu Beach Resort is cheaper and has more charm, but lacks a pool.

Viet Thanh Resort

Phu Quoc Island, Vietnam

Viet Thanh Resort is a basic hotel that caters to backpackers and couples on frugal budgets. Aside from its rock-bottom rates, the main draw here is the lovely stretch of beach right outside the hotel, complete with a casual restaurant serving a la carte breakfast and lunch, and popular barbecue dinners. Private rooms and dorms have a few great amenities for the price, such as air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi, and flat-screen TVs, but some rooms have major maintenance issues, and mosquitos can be an issue in bathrooms. There is no pool on-site, but guests are given free passes to the pool located at the hotel across the street. For a little more money, next-door neighbor Lien Hiep Thanh Resort is a good alternative.

Lien Hiep Thanh Resort

Duong Dong, Phu Quoc Island

Lien Hiep Thanh Resort is a small backpacker’s property located right on a lovely beach a 10-minute drive from Duong Dong and within walking distance of a few casual cafes. Its 39 rooms range from basic and bare bones (think: no hot water, no air-conditioning, and tiny bathrooms with wet room-style showers) to cute, with patios furnished with hammocks, and thatched roofs. All, however, have free Wi-Fi, free bottled water, and mini-fridges. A small beach restaurant is all there is in the way of amenities, but the hotel is popular among couples and young groups of friends for its laid-back atmosphere and small but pretty beach. Nearby are casual, inexpensive beach cafes and bars popular with backpackers. Next-door neighbor Rory’s Beach Bar is one of the most popular around, and noise can be an issue at night.  At neighboring Viet Thanh Resort all rooms have air-conditioning and rates are a little cheaper.
