Atlantic Beach Hotel

The Atlantic Beach Hotel and Suites main building houses 43 traditional guest rooms and three cottages are located a few minutes away directly on the beach. Decor throughout the hotel is simple, but tends towards more traditional Newport style with heavy wooden beds in rooms, classic wrought iron tables and chairs in common areas, and hardwood floors throughout much of the hotel. There are a few common areas located throughout the hotel with small balconies and wrought iron tables and chairs.

Families make up the bulk of the clientele here. Business and government travelers are also common to see, as the hotel is located within easy driving distance of convention centers and the Naval Station. 

Atlantic Beach Hotel and Suites is set on a side street away from the main Aquidneck Avenue in Middletown, on the outskirts of Newport. The hotel is conveniently located within easy walking distance to the popular Easton’s Beach, a 10-minute walk or a two-minute drive. The popular Cliff Walk, a three-and-a-half-mile walkway bordering the shore with stunning views of historic mansions, is a four-minute drive and a 16-minute walk away. The wharfs and piers of downtown Newport are a nine-minute drive or a 35- to 40-minute walk from the hotel. Top of Newport, the highest rooftop bar in Newport, is a five-minute drive away. Parking tends to be easiest along the side streets in the Historic District, and is a great starting point for exploring Newport. 

The International Tennis Hall of Fame is a nine-minute drive from the hotel, and plenty of restaurants and shops are within easy walking distance in the surrounding area. The Naval War College Museum, located on Coasters Harbor Island, is an 11-minute drive. The Naval Station Newport PASS and ID is a 10-minute drive from the hotel, while the Newport State Airport is an eight-minute drive. A free shuttle bus stops at the sister hotel, Comfort Inn Middletown, and drops passengers at popular Newport attractions and downtown Newport. Guests should be aware that the shuttle only runs during high season and during low season, a car might be best. Uber and Lyft both run in Newport and offer easy transportation around the small sailing town.

The main hotel building has 43 traditional guest rooms ranging in size, while there are three cottages located directly on the beach. Rooms are spacious, but simple, and could use a style update. Standard amenities include free spotty Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, safes, air-conditioning, mini-fridges, microwaves, and coffeemakers with coffee. Expect to see white walls, heavy wooden beds, and classic hardwood floors. Rooms come with white bedding, light comforters, and beige bed runners. Some rooms have work desks or separate sitting areas. Most bathrooms are moderately sized, while some are more spacious and offer ample vanity space. Bathrooms come with either standing showers or shower/tub combos. Toiletries are provided. Some travelers have noted that rooms closest to the stairs can be noisy. Past guests have also complained about inconsistent housekeeping and maintenance. 

The Atlantic Beach Hotel and Suites has a limited amount of amenities, even for a two-pearl hotel. Coffee is served in the lobby all day, while a free breakfast is served every morning. The breakfast is a bit simple and sparse with only cereal and fruit. A small business center is located in the lobby with one computer and a printer. 

There is plenty of free parking, both covered and uncovered. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel, though it can be a bit spotty in some of the rooms. Guests have the option of using the amenities at the sister hotel, Comfort Inn Middletown, which includes an indoor pool, seasonal shuttle service, and laundry facilities.
