Amathus Elite Suites

The VIP treatment at the Amathus Elite Suites begins at the discreet and stylish entrance, with its manicured greenery and stacked stone veneer. In the fashionable lobby, where posh furniture decorates a bright room, there are Greek treats and refreshments served fresh daily. The exclusivity and luxury of the hotel appeals to couples willing to pay for atmosphere, close proximity to the more touristy city, and the pebble beach across the road. Guests have the option to take advantage of services -- like a posh poolside bar with semi-submerged barstools -- at the sister hotel, the Amathus Beach Hotel Rhodes. But the Elite Suites’ modern restaurant -- bright with natural lighting and overlooking the pool -- is exclusive.

Located in Rodos (another name for Rhodes Island), the Elite Suites is a 10-minute drive to the more touristy Rhodes City and cultural sights like the Temple of Apollo Pizio and the Acropolis of Rhodes. The Rhodes Airport and Diagoras Stadium are both within about 15 to 20 minutes by car. There is also a city bus stop directly outside the hotel. The sister facility, Amathus Beach Hotel Rhodes, has children's activities and entertainment, three restaurants, and four bars available to Elite Suites guests. Other restaurants are nearby, including a pizzeria within about a 10 minutes' walk. Surfing lessons are a three-minute walk away.

Decked out with plush sofa beds, recessed blue lighting, sleek white furniture, and glossy wood and marble floors, suites blend comfort with modern luxury. The many stylish extras include a pillow menu, electronic curtains and "Do Not Disturb" signs, and wine and fresh flowers on arrival. Basics are also covered: flat-screen TVs, CD/DVD players, and tea/coffee machines. Bathrooms have wood and marble decor with two sinks, rain showerheads, and Bulgari toiletries. Wood-planked terraces have cushioned lounge chairs and private pools (except in five suites). Traffic noise from the road isn't a problem as windows are double-glazed. The Presidential Suite has a sprawling terrace, hammock, and garden. Housekeeping is done twice-daily.

Keeping with the somewhat quirky and colorful decor theme of the hotel, the Amathus Spa has recessed blue and purple lighting, woven screens, modern leather seating, and hallways with billowing white ceilings. The spa, which is not exclusive to Elite Suites guests, offers 14-Asian themed rooms, Vichy showers, a solarium indoor pool, and free access to a Turkish bath, sauna, and hot tub. The spa's freshwater black pool, tucked in a garden with lounge chairs, is sleek and available to all Elite Suites guests, much like the modern gym at the main hotel.
