Compared to its massive neighbors, the upper-middle-range Samba Vallarta — All Inclusive is pleasantly small scale. While it doesn’t offer the same over-the-top amenities as the Hard Rock or the Grand Velas, its atmosphere is quieter, its pool and beach are less crowded, and its pace is more relaxed. Plus, Samba still has plenty of family-friendly features, like a kiddie pool with water slides, a kids' club, and an outdoor theater with nightly performances. Its 183 rooms are clean and spacious, but decor seriously lacks style, which is true for most of the hotel. There are three on-site restaurants, but food quality gets mixed reviews at the a la carte and buffet options. Travelers looking for a small all-inclusive that’s a bit more upscale might prefer Bel Air Collection Resort & Spa Vallarta, which is pricier but is a bit more stylish and has better food. 

A cheesy Mayan theme and dated decor are the hallmarks of Paradise Village Beach Resort & Spa, a 693-room, upper-middle-range beachfront property in Nuevo Vallarta. The sprawling Paradise Village complex always feels crowded, but spacious rooms with full kitchens, a family-friendly atmosphere, and attractive all-inclusive rates keep guests coming back year after year. Plus, the hotel’s large spa, modern fitness center, and prime location in Nuevo Vallarta are nice perks as well. Travelers looking for a similar, more updated property may prefer Marival Resort & Suites Nuevo Vallarta All-Inclusive, though nightly rates are pricier.

Wedged between mega-resorts and modern time-share condominiums, Bahia del Sol Resort is one of Nuevo Vallarta’s few budget options. Bahia del Sol doesn’t offer much besides dated rooms (some with full kitchens), an icy cold swimming pool, and spotty Wi-Fi, but its cheap rates and prime beachfront location keep attracting guests year after year. One highlight is the on-site Italian restaurant, Guido’s, which is often regarded as one of the best in the area. Travelers willing to shell out a bit more cash might prefer Samba Vallarta All-Inclusive, a nicer property with more amenities (like free kayaks and a game room) but a rowdier atmosphere. 

Las Palomas is a no-frills hotel located off a major road and across from renowned Flamingos Golf Club. Rooms are bright and airy but a little basic, with only free Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, and a tube TV in the way of amenities. There’s a small restaurant serving breakfast and a light dinner menu, and a pleasant pool with loungers and a large palapa for shade. For the price, it’s a solid pick for travelers on a budget who don’t mind driving to the beach and nearby attractions.

Splash Inn Nuevo Vallarta is a budget-friendly hotel best known for its on-site waterpark. Patronized by guests and locals alike, the waterpark is a popular area attraction, with dozens of slides, a kiddie pool, and sea animal shows featuring dolphins and sea lions. The hotel itself is basic, with sparsely furnished rooms and underwhelming decor. Amenities include a small pool and a tiny fitness center, plus an on-site restaurant with unreliable hours. Guests have access to free Wi-Fi in the lobby, but the connection can be spotty. In our opinion, travelers are better off staying at a nearby hotel and visiting the waterpark for a day. Hotel Las Palomas Nuevo Vallarta is a budget-friendly pick with a bit more charm, plus it has better Wi-Fi and a cute breakfast restaurant.
