Bottom Line

The 79-room Comfort Inn & Suites Savannah Airport is located in a hospitality park about a mile from the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport. Built in 2006, the mid-range hotel is well-suited to business travelers, though somewhat inconveniently located for tourists. The property struggles with cleanliness and upkeep, and despite a modern blue design in the guest rooms, decor appears a little worn. The hotel has a small outdoor pool, fitness center, and convenience store. It also provides free hot breakfast and Wi-Fi. The DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Savannah Airport offers similar rates and location, though smarter, more modern style throughout.

Comfort Inn & Suites Savannah Airport

Scene

Touches of style, though mostly generic decor

This chain property has a basic cream-colored stone facade with red tile roof, surrounded by ample parking lots, and some shrubbery and patches of grass here and there. The way in which the hotel has infused color into its decor is a pleasant surprise, however. The lobby is large and bright, with light blue- and red-striped reading chairs clustered around peachy ottomans and oval-shaped wooden tables. The dark blue wall behind reception matches hues of the furniture well, making the space feel warm and welcoming. Continuing past reception into the breakfast area, the look becomes less stylized, but remains bright and in good condition, with polished wood floors and nice natural light. A few wooden tables with red-backed chairs sit next to the buffet area, where guests are served a hot and cold breakfast each morning. At the other side is the hotel's bar, with heavy red-cushioned chairs and elegant wood-framed mirrors. Guests tend to be business travelers or tourists who don't mind the distance from downtown Savannah, or who are just passing through town.

Location

Five minutes from the airport, 20 minutes away from downtown Savannah

The Comfort Inn & Suites Savannah Airport sits among several other hotels, including a DoubleTree by Hilton property and a Holiday Inn Express. As indicated in its name, the hotel is only a five-minute drive to the airport, and the hotel provides free transportation to and from. Downtown Savannah is about a 20-minute drive, making the Comfort Inn & Suites less ideal for tourists. The Savannah Civic Center is around 20 minutes away by car. There are a number of reasonably priced dining options in the area, including the Waffle House and Sam Snead's Oak Grill & Tavern, both within about five minutes' walk.

Rooms

Not very large, showing their age

The rooms at the Comfort Inn & Suites are simple and a little on the small side. The cobalt blue of the bedspreads and headboards is attractive, and the canvas box shelves in lieu of drawers area nice touches of modern style. The hotel is in need of an update, though, and furniture and carpets generally show wear and tear. Bathrooms are plain and bright, with beige tile and shower/tub combos, and have hairdryers and a few sets of bath products. The hotel also has a few two-room suites, each of which offers a great deal more space, including a separate bedroom and living room. All rooms come with 32-inch flatscreen TVs, microwaves, mini-fridges, coffeemakers, and free Wi-Fi.
