With just 351 rooms, the Barut Hemera is smaller than most of its neighbors. The atmosphere here isn’t intimate or quiet, but the layout of the grounds makes the property feel a little bit more serene than other family-friendly resorts. Rooms are housed in several low buildings spread over big gardens shaded by trees, and most of the action takes place around the main pool during the day, making it easy to find a spot away from the noise. Couples may miss having an adult-only pool, but there are always loungers scattered around the gardens for those wanting some R&R.

Barut Hemera was built in 1990 and lacks some of the glitz and style of the newer resorts. That’s not to say that it’s rundown or unkempt, but some common areas could use some sprucing up, in particular some worn carpets and a few old pieces of furniture. A couple of fairy light-style lamps, white stone accents, and an ornate yellow mirror  add some pleasant touches, but the overall design is underwhelming. 

The resort offers good value, however, but sister property Barut Lara is more luxurious -- with rates to match. Families wanting even more kid-friendly amenities and a more bustling atmosphere may prefer the Royal Dragon Hotel, though it can be a little bit more expensive. Turquoise Resort Hotel & Spa is a better pick for couples seeking something quieter and cheaper.   

Barut Hemera is located in a beachfront community packed with other all-inclusive resorts. There is nothing of general interest within easy walking distance, but a few shops and restaurants can be found a five-minute walk away. The city of Side, known for its gorgeous historic ruins and lovely seaside cafes, can be reached in about 10 minutes by car, and there is a public bus stop right outside of the hotel. The beach offers direct access to a pleasant promenade that goes all the way to Side, but the walk to the city center takes about 30 minutes. Other local attractions, including the Manavgat Waterfalls and Lyrbe, can be found within a 30-minute drive of the hotel. Antalya and the airport are an hour away. 

Starting at 344 square feet (32 square meters), rooms may be a tad smaller than the average in the area, but they're still comfortable and sunny, with big glass doors opening onto furnished balconies. Decor is simple and pleasant, consisting of dark-wood furniture that stands out against the pale-yellow walls, and bed runners with geometric patterns in pink, orange, and yellow hues. Though the style is mostly subdued, splashes of orange on pillows and chairs add color.

Rooms range between simple Standard units for a maximum of three guests to Two-Bedroom Residences featuring wet bars, dining tables, and sofa beds. All room categories, however, offer the same great amenities, including flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, central air-conditioning, pillow menus, and electric kettles. Minibars are stocked with sodas, water, and beer -- all replenished daily free of charge. 

Bathrooms are clean but compact, and have a mix of old and new features. Baby-blue tiles and granite counters with traces from the original design fill the spaces, and each bathroom is stocked with a good range of toiletries, including loofahs, toothbrushes, and combs. Hairdryers, robes, and slippers are also provided in all rooms.  

Top features here are the several outdoor pools and indoor one. The main pool generally has music and entertainment during the day, but there is also a quieter pool for those who prefer a more serene atmosphere. In addition, there are a tiny water park with two slides, and a shallow pool for kids. The beach is a good alternative, but access to the sea is uncomfortable, as there are many rocks.

The hotel’s all-inclusive package is a definite highlight. It covers not only the usual buffet meals, snacks, and local drinks, but also unlimited dinners at the a la carte eateries, and brand-name alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks until midnight. Food is good in all restaurants, though some guests have complained of repetitive breakfasts.

Use of the hammam and the sauna is free, while massages, body treatments, and salon services are available for a fee. The fitness center features a good array of cardio and strength-training machines, and there are a tennis court and a mini-golf course that guests can use free of charge. Kids and teens have their own dedicated spaces, complete with games, lounge areas, and group activities.
