Sant Francesc Hotel Singular
Plaza Sant Francesc 5

The four-pearl Sant Francesc Hotel Singular is a boutique property set in a meticulously renovated 19th-century mansion. It overlooks Sant Francesc Church in the center of Palma's old town. The 42 beautifully designed rooms all have flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, and gourmet minibars. All rooms also include perks like Nespresso machines. A rooftop pool and terrace with a sushi bar has wonderful church views, while Quadrat serves Mediterranean cuisine. There’s a bar on the ground floor as well, plus a full-service spa and 24-hour fitness center. Previous guests love the courtyard for sipping coffees and cocktails day or night. Prices are in keeping with an upscale property, but visitors wanting more of a party vibe may try Hotel Puro instead, where rates are lower.

HM Balanguera
Calle Balanguera 37

The 40-room HM Balanguera is an innovative, urban boutique packed with design, lots of sunlight, and an inviting rooftop pool. Artsy but homey, common areas are striking with their modern style, while the rooms -- more subtly decorated, in mostly all white -- convey a rustic, restful ambiance. Located on a quiet residential street a 10-minute walk from the center of Palma, it's well-placed for taking in the main sites, but for a similar price, a livelier location, and more amenities (including a spa), it's worth checking out the nearby HM Jaime III

AH Art Hotel Palma
Calle de La Costa Sintes 6, Está ubicado al final de las Ramblas, en la escalera izquierda que sube a Plaza Mayor.

Hotel Playasol Cala Tarida
C/ Plaza del Mar, s/n

The Hotel Club Cala Tarida is a budget hotel complex set on a cliff top above the scenic and sandy Cala Tarida beach, accessible via a short trail from the hotel. The atmosphere is fun, friendly, and unpretentious, though it is dated, especially the 195 rooms, all of which have old tube TVs, air-conditioning, and balconies or terraces. With both a kids' club during the day, animation teams on hand, and nightly entertainment, the hotel draws families, groups of friends, and couples, though some might prefer less noise in the evenings. Group travelers after a cheap stay with even more of a party scene may want to check out the Florencio Hostal up the coast in San Antonio.

H10 Delfin
C/ de la Rioja 4 - 6, Playa de Levante

The upper-middle-range H10 Delfin is an adult-only hotel in the centre of Salou, about a five-minute walk from the beach. It has a modern, stylish design throughout, though the 242 rooms are less impressive than public spaces. Rooms have minimal decor and there are fees for mini-fridges and safes, though they come with flat-screen TVs, balconies, and free Wi-Fi. There's no spa, but the hotel has two outdoor pools, both of which have whirlpools, as well as a small gym and game room. Breakfast and dinner are served buffet-style, and although full- and half-board rates are available, reviews of the food are mixed. However, given its central location, it's not hard to find other places to eat. Families looking for a similar style of hotel that also caters to children should check out the H10 Mediterranean Village.

Valentin Playa de Muro
Ctra. Artá-Alcudia, km 23,4 Ma-12 Playa de Muro

Valentin Playa de Muro is a former campsite turned mid-range bungalow complex set in attractive and extensive gardens just outside Can Picafort resort. Although set on a main road, it's surrounded by lush greenery and a few minutes walk from the lovely Playa de Muro beach. The one-bedroom apartments are functional and clean, with cooking facilities and plenty of outdoor space, though bathrooms are small. With two pools (one for training and another for relaxing), plenty of sports facilities, and a summer kids' club, both activity-focused vacationers and families are well catered for. Overall it's a great pick for those who like the independence of self-contained accommodation with a few resort-style features. Nature-lovers should also consider the Exagon Park hotel, where most of its rooms overlook a huge pine forest.

NH Parla
Avenida Leguario 2, Leguario

The NH Parla is a clean, mid-range modern business hotel outside Madrid with low rates, convenient mostly for those who need to be in the Parla neighborhood. Although there are a few restaurants and shops within walking distance, you definitely need a rental car to get around; Madrid is about a 30-minute drive, or 50-minute bus ride, away and most attractions are about a 20-minute drive from the hotel. The hotel is contemporary, but only includes the essentials. Rooms are bland, with minimal design, but bathrooms are modern and a good size. There's free breakfast and parking, but the breakfast hours are early, convenient mostly for business travelers. The hotel is pet-friendly and children under 11 can stay for free. There’s also free Wi-Fi and a 24-hour front desk.

Hotel Exe Suites 33
Calle Leganitos 33

The mid-range Hotel Exe Suites 33 is about a two minute walk to the Plaza de Espana, on a small street that runs parallel to the Gran Via, one of Madrid's busiest arteries. Its 33 rooms are spacious with subdued decor, and come with kitchenettes (guests need to request dishware from reception); Junior Suites and Suites have separate sitting areas. While they might not be the most consciously stylish rooms in Madrid, they represent good value for their central location. Travelers might want to also check out the more upscale Exe Centrel -- about a 20-minute walk east of Suites 33 -- which has an on-site fitness center and cafe bar, but its rates are slightly higher.

Tryp Madrid Alameda Aeropuerto Hotel
Avenida Logrono 100

The 148-room Tryp Madrid Alameda Aeropuerto is a solid mid-range airport hotel with contemporary interiors and a pleasant garden. It offers 24-hour free shuttle service to all airport terminals, and features extensive meeting space with full audiovisual equipment. Rooms are spacious and clean, outfitted with comfortable beds, free Wi-Fi, safes big enough for laptops, and flat-screen TVs. Many rooms also have furnished balconies, and Family Rooms feature separate living areas with bunk beds. Breakfast (not included in the standard rate) is varied and tasty, but some guests find lunch and dinner bland and overpriced. The fitness center is small, but it has enough equipment for a quick workout. In this price range, Maydrit Hotel is more stylish and has a pleasant outdoor pool.

Acta Madfor

The 99-room Hotel Acta Madfor is a mid-range property that opened in 2012 opposite Príncipe Pío train station to the west of Madrid's center. While immediate surrounds aren't that attractive, there's plenty of green space within walking distance -- as is the city's liveliest street of Gran Vía. Rooms are fresh and modern, though can be small with poor sound insulation. Views from higher-level rooms and the roof-top solarium terrace are a real highlight, and on-site parking is a real boon for drivers. Overall, it's a good value option with good transport connections -- though earplugs might be required.
