Maude’s Hotel Enskede is situated in a three-story yellow farmhouse building with country-green accents, top dormer windows, a terra-cotta roof, and a wraparound porch dotted with cafe tables and couches. The look fits in perfectly with the green, residential surrounds. The lobby doubles as a breakfast room and features a country-contemporary look with dark wood tables, rattan chairs, and doors that open onto a furnished deck. Guests lounge here during the day, enjoying free coffee and, sometimes, homemade cakes -- though the area can get overcrowded in the morning during breakfast. Clean, comfortable, and privately owned, this property feels a bit more like a bed-and-breakfast or a guesthouse than a hotel, offering a more personal feel than comparable chain hotels. Maude’s attracts everyone from couples to solo travelers to business types. 

While situated in a suburb rather than the city center, Maude’s Hotel Enskede is still surprisingly convenient to central Stockholm. The Svedmyra metro station is just a three-minute walk, from which it takes about 15 to 20 minutes to get to the heart of the city. The immediate area surrounding the hotel is largely residential -- don’t expect to walk to shops or restaurants, though there are grocery stores -- but it’s pleasant with greenery and houses rather than tower blocks common in more populated areas. Ericsson Globe and Tele2Arena, two big venues for concerts, sporting events, and conventions, are just 10 to 12 minutes via public transit or a few minutes' drive. Stockholm central stations is 18 minutes by public transit while Stockholm Arlanda Airport is about an hour via public transit. The hotel offers free parking.

Guest rooms are decently sized, clean, and pleasantly decorated. Wood floors, neutral beige and tan walls (sometimes balanced with blue stripes), and simple, contemporary furnishings give a homey backdrop. Furnishings are similarly cozy with rattan chairs and light wood wardrobes. However, bathrooms can feel quite dated, sporting white and beige tiling with orange accents and plastic shower stalls, though floors are heated. Single, Twin, and Double Rooms are available, as are Superior Rooms, which add nice views over the residential area, rather than over the main road and parking lot.

In-room amenities include wall-mounted flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, and stuffed animals (available for purchase). Bathrooms have hairdryers and a combination of individual toiletries and dispensers. But note that there's no air-conditioning, mini-fridges, or in-room coffee/tea service. 

The hotel’s lobby lounge doubles as a breakfast room, where a free daily breakfast is served with a decent spread of the usual suspects: cereal, yogurt, cheese, meat, bread, and eggs. The breakfast area can get crowded enough that guests can’t find a seat, but that’s less problematic in the summer when seating spills onto the wraparound porch and deck, spots that are also comfortable for lounging during the day. There’s no full-service restaurant or bar, but some bottled drinks, like beer and wine, are available for purchase in the lobby, and coffee and tea are free all day. (Free homemade cakes or chocolate chip cookies often also make an appearance.) The hotel also has a small sauna and an exercise bike, but these feel like afterthoughts. Other perks include a small meeting room, free Wi-Fi, and free parking. Be aware that reception is not open 24-hours; guests planning to check-in late should make arrangements in advance.
