Bottom Line

The mid-range Shinjuku Washington Hotel Annex sits in the heart of the Shinjuku neighborhood and shares a complex with its sister property, the Shinjuku Washington Hotel. Bland decor aside, it's a good choice for business travelers, offering eight meeting/event rooms as well as other conveniences like a restaurant serving shabu-shabu and teppanyaki for dinner, plus more dining options in the next-door sister hotel. A relaxation lounge offers massage chairs, computers and printers (for a fee), and coin-operated laundry facilities, plus Wi-Fi is free throughout (but can be slow). The 337 guest rooms here are small and simple, but offer a solid range of amenities, including mini-fridges, kettles, and flat-screen TVs with video on-demand. For larger rooms, check out Citadines Shinjuku Tokyo instead, though it lacks a restaurant.

Shinjuku Washington Hotel Annex

What's the Scene Like at Shinjuku Washington Hotel Annex?

This mid-range business hotel has functional, bland interiors and is connected to another property.

Shinjuku Washington Hotel Annex is a mid-range hotel that's particularly popular with business travelers. Interiors have a streamlined though bland look: beige marble floors line the lobby and are paired with blonde-wood paneling and a wavy ceiling that can be a bit abrasive on the eyes. It looks dated, especially when compared to the considerably swankier on-site restaurant, Fujita. Decor at the restaurant includes seating along a curved glass wall that overlooks a lush garden, as well as paneled wood walls and dim, atmospheric lighting that sets the stage for live show cooking.

Overall, the property is a bit uninspired yet functional, offering clean room rooms at reasonable rates in a great location. Note that the Annex shares the complex with its sister hotel, the towering Shinjuku Washington Hotel Main, which offers a couple more dining options that guests can use.

Where is Shinjuku Washington Hotel Annex Located?

Convenient location in the Shinjuku area, a short walk from the train station and near lots of restaurants and minimarts.

Shinjuku Washington Hotel Annex is located right behind its sister property, the Shinjuku Washington hotel, in the busy Shinjuku neighborhood of Tokyo. There are plenty of restaurants, cafes, and convenience stores in the immediate area, while Shinjuku Station, the area's major transport hub, is a 10-minute walk away. Many of Tokyo's most popular tourist attractions are easy to get to from the hotel using public transportation, including Tokyo Tower (30 minutes away by metro) and the numerous museums in Ueno Park (about 40 minutes away). The Imperial Palace takes around 40 minutes to get to, as does the Sensoji Temple. Getting to Haneda Airport takes around 50 minutes using the Haneda-Airport Limousine Bus, or it's a 20- to 40-minute drive (depending on traffic). Narita Airport is around an hour-and-a-half away via public transit, or it's an hour to an hour and 20 minutes away by taxi.

What are Rooms Like at Shinjuku Washington Hotel Annex?

Simple, small rooms have plain low-frills decor and solid amenities.

Rooms at this hotel are simple, functional, and well-equipped, but they're small, starting at 153 square feet (14.2 square meters) and going up to 277 square feet (25.7 square meters). Rooms feel cramped, though they make efficient use of space; some higher-category units even have side seating areas with small tables. Decor is simple, featuring a melange of beige and browns, with dark-wood furniture and beige-tinged walls. Note that while both non-smoking and smoking rooms are available (and segregated by floor), many non-smoking units have a lingering cigarette smell.

All rooms have large desks with lamps, flat-screen TVs (with on-demand videos for a fee), mini-fridges, light control panels on headboards, kettles, air purifiers, and free Wi-Fi. Pajamas and slippers are provided and trouser presses and irons/ironing boards can be borrowed from the front desk. Rooms on the women-only floor add extras such as high-end hairdryers, face steamers, upgraded toiletries, and jewelry boxes, while those on the Executive Floor have larger work areas. Bathrooms are tiny (but this is normal for Tokyo), but well-equipped with deep soaking tubs and handheld showerheads, bidet toilets, hairdryers, and large bottles of toiletries.

What Features are Available at Shinjuku Washington Hotel Annex?

Shabu shabu/teppanyaki restaurant, relaxation room with computers and laundry facilities, and free (but sometimes slow) Wi-Fi.

There's a lot of dining options here, distributed between the Annex and the next-door sister hotel. Breakfast is served (for a fee) in three of the restaurants, including a western and Japanese breakfast buffet at the on-site Steak & Shabu-shabu Fujita. The restaurant is also open for dinner and offers shabu-shabu, wagyu, and teppanyaki. Over in the sister hotel, Yakichi serves a traditional Japanese breakfast, while Serari-geihinkan offers a Chinese-style buffet breakfast.

Other features include eight different meeting rooms spread across the third and fourth floors, including ones that can accommodate up to 135 people, theater-style. Another perk is the Relaxation Lounge, which has keycard access and is exclusively for guests of the hotel. The lounge offers two desktop computers and a printer -- but there's a fee to use them. There are also massage chairs, vending machines stocked with beer and soft drinks, and several coin-operated washer/dryers inside.
