Butterfly on Prat

Tsim Sha Tsui, China

Located in the bustling tourist and shopping district of Tsim Sha Tsui, the Butterfly On Prat is a 158-room, mid-range hotel that's ideal for a range of travelers. The hotel offers a stylish, modern atmosphere with simple but eclectic decor and colorful accents. Rooms are tastefully decorated and feature mini-fridges, microwaves, coffee- and tea-making facilities, and flat-screen TVs. Wi-Fi is free and guests get a free smartphone (with unlimited 3G and local calling) to use during their stay. There are few extra property features -- there's no gym, pool, or eateries -- but plenty options exist nearby.

Xi Hotel

Tsim Sha Tsui, China

Xi Hotel is a basic mid-range option that has one of the best locations in Tsim Sha Tsui. It sits on a relatively quiet street, around the corner from the trendy K11 Art Mall and the Hyatt Regency. While features are few -- limited to free continental breakfasts, a wine bar, and an attractive meeting area -- the hotel is popular with families from mainland China and international travelers seeking reasonable rates. The 64 rooms are modern, quiet, and clean, through some are worn and they are dark. Free Handy Phones and Wi-Fi are helpful perks, and most rooms include sofabeds for families.

Kimberley Hotel

Tsim Sha Tsui, China

Conveniently located in the bustling tourist and shopping district of Tsim Sha Tsui, the 546-room Kimberley Hotel is an upper-middle-range property in walking distance to many restaurants, high-end shops, and popular attractions. This hotel was built in 1990 as a luxury property, and while it maintains some ritzy features, style is on the dated side. Rooms are functional and tidy with minibars, flat-screen TVs, air-conditioning, and coffee- and tea-making facilities. The hotel has three on-site restaurants, a lobby bar, a spa, two meeting rooms, and a small gym. Breakfast is available, but it costs an extra daily fee, as does Wi-Fi.

InnSight

Tsim Sha Tsui, China

Hidden inside an apartment building above restaurants and retail shops, the eight-room InnSight is a budget property occupying a great location in Tsim Sha Tsui. Inside, the hostel is cramped, though cozy, with a common room that pulls triple duty as a guest kitchenette, TV lounge, and reception desk. Rooms are lovingly decorated with individually painted wall art and private bathrooms, though some can be quite small. There's no restaurant or bar on-site, nor is breakfast included.

5

Hop Inn

Tsim Sha Tsui, China

The two-pearl Hop Inn provides one-of-a-kind rooms in two different locations in Hong Kong's vibrant Tsim Sha Tsui neighborhood. It's part of a trendy wave of boutique hostels, and rooms are designed by local artists. We visited the Carnarvon Road location, and rooms range from compact Single Rooms without windows, to four-person rooms, all with en-suite bathrooms. Be warned, though, that bathrooms are glass-walled and have almost no privacy from the main room. There's a bespoke gift shop on site, and the Carnarvon location has a lounge with foosball, DVDs, and books.
