Hotel Guerrini

The Hotel Guerrini is a typical small Venetian hotel situated on a quiet street off busy Lista di Spagna. Potted trees and flowers flank the entrance, and the hotel blends in with the surrounding buildings. Rooms are spread between two buildings. The hotel offers few extras and is geared primarily toward budget-minded couples and families who don't plan to spend much time at the hotel. The small lobby offers little more than the front desk, except for a single cafe table and chairs, and staff is available around-the-clock. The look -- like nearly all of the hotel's interiors -- is straightforward, with lots of wood and a glass case of knick-knacks. Stairs lead up to guest rooms, but keep in mind that there is no elevator, so guests with lots of luggage or mobility issues need to be prepared. 

This hotel is located in a quiet area that's a five-minute walk from St. Lucia train station in the Cannaregio District. It's also close to a water taxi stop, and the Piazzale Roma bus station is about a 10-minute walk away, with just one bridge to cross. The hotel is surrounded by other hotels, bars, and restaurants. The water taxis are useful for navigating sights along the Grand Canal, and it will take about 20 minutes to reach Piazza San Marco using a combination of walking and the water taxi. Otherwise, Venice is supremely walkable, and the Rialto Bridge is about 20 minutes away on foot, while Basilica San Marco is five minutes beyond that. The Peggy Guggenheim Collection is a 25-minute walk from the hotel, or about the same amount of time by walking and taking a water taxi. Marco Polo Airport is 15 minutes away by car or 25 minutes by train. 

The hotel offers Single, Twin and Double, and Family Rooms, all with a basic style that consists of white Venetian antique-style furniture painted with floral motifs and gold accents. Dark blue bedspreads cover the beds, and the flooring is quartz tiling in a cream hue. Traditional Venetian artwork hangs on the white walls, and curtains are also white. All rooms come with air-conditioning, small wall-mounted flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi. Family rooms can sleep up to four people. Bathrooms are small, as is typical in Venice, and come with hairdryers, bidets, small packages of toiletries, and showers only. Guests should know that some rooms share a bathroom, and we spotted mildew in some of the showers. Views are mostly of the adjacent buildings and courtyard.

A budget hotel through and through, there's not much in the way of features here. The hotel serves a free continental breakfast that includes yogurt, cold meats, pastries, and cereal that takes place in a cozy breakfast room with red and white tablecloths. The hotel's reception is staffed 24/7, and while WI-Fi is free, it doesn't work very well in some rooms.
