Run by the same family for the past 178 years, Austria Classic Hotel Wien occupies a four-story building with a typical Viennese neoclassical facade on a wide tree-lined city street. The hotel first opened in 1838 and was the birthplace of composer Max Steiner -- best known for the music he created for the film Casablanca. The lobby and its classical features like arched doorways, wooden reception desk, wood-paneled walls, and Art Deco-style chandeliers set the tone for the rest of the hotel's simple but elegant decor. Black-and-white prints of the city's architectural landmarks decorate the walls throughout the property. The hotel is popular with tourists visiting the city, especially couples and families. During warmer months, guests can relax in the interior courtyard, or on the rooftop terrace with sunbeds and a giant chess board. 

The Austria Classic Hotel Wien is located directly on Praterstrasse, one of the neighborhood's main arteries, and within walking distance of Praterstern train station, where a subway station (U-Bahn) is also located. The busy tree-lined street is home to many cafes, restaurants, and shops. Located outside the city center in Vienna's second district, this area has traditionally been one of the city's rougher areas, but this stretch of Praterstrasse is safe.

The guest rooms at Austria Classic Hotel Wien are clean, comfortable, and air-conditioned. Decor is simple and neat but unremarkable. Floors are covered in blue wall-to-wall carpets, and the walls are painted a cream color, with matching striped curtains at the windows. Wall-mounted flat-screen TVs have satellite and radio channels. The furniture, including desks and nightstands, is made of generic wood in honey tones. Bathrooms are clean and utilitarian, with beige and brown tiles, but they can be cramped, and the shower stalls small. Only some rooms (in the Family category) have bathtubs. All have hairdryers and basic toiletries. Single and Double Rooms are available, as well as Family Rooms with up to three beds, and cribs on request. Suites are also available that include separate living areas and spacious bathrooms with rainfall showerheads in the showers. All rooms have minibars stocked with alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Safes are provided. The upper-category Premium and Comfort Rooms have bigger beds and electric kettles for coffee and tea. Some guests have complained about the noise of passing underground subway trains which can be heard from some rooms. Light sleepers might want to request a Premium Room, as they're closer to the interior courtyard and quieter. All rooms have free Wi-Fi. 

Austria Classic Hotel Wien has a handful of on-site features, some more sparse than others. Served in the breakfast room, the buffet breakfast is free and includes a variety of Austrian-style cold cuts and cheeses, as well as cakes, breads, and rolls. The fitness room is very small, and includes only three machines: a treadmill, stationary bicycle, and a weight machine, as well as free weights. There's also a large on-site sauna free for use. A meeting room can seat up to 24 people, and there's a small library and lounge with a computer and printer available for guest use. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel. Private on-site parking is available for an extra fee. The hotel also has a pleasant rooftop terrace and an interior courtyard, where guests can relax and have breakfast during the warmer months.
