This mid-range hotel on Chesapeake Bay is a popular spot for all sorts of functions due to its ballroom and five meeting rooms, which total to 16,000 square feet of event space. Though the resort has certainly seen better days (the look throughout is dated and worn), its amenities are plentiful: a private beach, a restaurant with a popular Sunday brunch, a cafe with Starbucks coffee, indoor and outdoor pools, a fitness center, a free local shuttle, and free Wi-Fi. The spartan decor in the 295 suites make the rooms feel austere, but they are spacious, with generous living areas and separate bedrooms, as well as granite-counter efficiencies with microwaves, refrigerators, and coffeemakers.

One of the larger and snazzier hotels in town, the 289-room Hilton Virginia Beach is a centrally located beachfront hotel with lots of amenities for leisure and business travelers (including three floors of executive rooms with extra perks and a large conference center with audio/visual equipment). Most of the chain-like rooms have beach-facing balconies. There are two pools, one of which is a rooftop infinity pool with great views, two upscale restaurants, and a bar. That said, there are fees for Wi-Fi (unless guests are Hilton Honors members) and parking, both of which are free at most other hotels in town.

Clearly geared toward corporate travelers, the 150-room Crowne Plaza Hotel Virginia Beach - Town Center offers several meeting rooms and a large convention space. There is nothing spectacular about the 150 rooms here, but they are modern and straightforward, and feature flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, microwaves, and desks with rolling chairs. Some rooms are equipped for larger groups, with sofa beds and larger living spaces. The hotel offers amenities that include room service, a restaurant, a bar, a small fitness area, an indoor pool, and newspaper delivery upon request.

Situated next to the Regent University campus, the 240-room Founders Inn and Spa attracts business guests for its vast event facilities and conference center. Other features include perfectly manicured grounds with walking paths, restaurants with fresh seafood, a bar, a business center, and a large fitness area with several modern treadmills, bikes, weight machines, and space for yoga and free weights. Guests have access to free outdoor parking and Wi-Fi throughout the hotel. The hotel runs a shuttle to local destinations for a small extra fee.

The 141-room Hampton Inn offers what appears to be the standard among its hotel neighbors on the Virginia Beach boardwalk: rooms with balconies that face the ocean, a free buffet breakfast, and an indoor pool. But business travelers are also catered here, with three meeting rooms, a business center with two desktop computers and a printer, and Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel. The budget-friendly property is a bit worn, with bland, chain-like decor and rooms can get noise from the beach, but the on-site 11th St Taphouse Bar & Grille serves good food and has an outdoor patio on the boardwalk.

Near Norfolk Airport, the 67-room Comfort Inn & Suites is a budget chain property with some bonus amenities, like an indoor pool, small gym, and free hot breakfast. Slightly dated rooms are spacious and homey, and feature coffeemakers, microwaves, and mini-fridges. The hotel is convenient for business travelers, thanks to its free Wi-Fi, airport proximity, computer corner, large meeting rooms equipped with presentation equipment, and banquet room for larger events. 

The 114 rooms at Country Inn & Suites Virginia Beach Oceanfront are simple, homey, and have balconies with fantastic ocean views. This hotel -- which is right on the Virginia Beach boardwalk -- has an indoor pool, a fitness room, meeting and banquet space, and a business center. Nice freebies include coffee and cookies, Wi-Fi, and a hot breakfast buffet, which is served in a spacious, casual dining area.
