Evergreen Lodge at Yosemite

Groveland, California, United States

Surrounded by Stanislaus National Forest, this 22-acre cabin resort is about one mile from the western border of Yosemite National Park and close to Hetch Hetchy Valley. The 88 cabins come in different sizes, and all are rustic and cozy, with large private decks. There are no phones, TVs, or Wi-Fi in the cabins -- the resort is for travelers who want to disconnect from the world for and enjoy the serenity of pine forest. Guests looking for something active to do will find it too -- there's some equipment for rent on-site, such as mountain bikes and snowshoes, plus fly fishing, bocce ball, rafting, horseback riding, and two recreational halls filled with games, books, and art supplies.

Half Dome Village

Yosemite National Park, California, United States

In 1899, Camp Curry was established as a reasonably priced lodging option in Yosemite National Park. Its name was changed in the late 20th century and today the property not only includes cabins and tents, but also motel rooms, a gift and grocery shop, bar, ice rink, pool, and amphitheater. The community is located at the foot of Glacier Point, a summit that offers stunning views of Yosemite National Park. Luxuries like private bathrooms, heaters, electrical outlets, and phones are rare in Half Dome Village -- you'll have to splurge on the pricier of the 503 accommodations to find such features. (And even those higher-end units lack the coffeemakers and mini-fridges found in Evergreen's cabins.) Bigger motel rooms and cabins are outfitted with rustic decor, while the tent cabins are basically just for sleeping and getting dressed.
