Travelodge Hotel Niagara Falls Fallsview
5599 River Rd

The 130-room mid-range Travelodge Hotel Niagara Falls Fallsview Hotel is a 10-minute walk to the touristy heart of Niagara Falls, Ontario, and offers a good value for its location and stellar views of the falls (in select rooms). Guest rooms are clean but dated and worn, and some still have features like heart-shaped hot tubs that are held over from the bygone era when Niagara Falls was queen of honeymoon destinations. The hotel also features an on-site restaurant, indoor swimming pool, and fitness center, but guests looking for more contemporary rooms and upgraded features should try Radisson Hotel & Suites Fallsview, though bookings may be more expensive.

Sheraton on the Falls Hotel
5875 Falls Avenue

The four-pearl Sheraton on the Falls offers some of the best views of Niagara Falls found anywhere, along with a host of upscale amenities. It's connected via an enclosed walkway to a casino and an indoor waterpark, and its buffet and fine-dining restaurants offer sweeping views. The full-service spa, two pools (indoor and outdoor), and large fitness center keep both kids and parents happy. A wide variety of options exist in its 669 rooms, which are generally spacious, clean, and tastefully decorated but not especially upscale. Mini-fridges and coffee/tea facilities are included, but there's a daily resort fee for Wi-Fi access, and parking is expensive. Rates are competitive, but can spike on weekends, so it may be worth comparing rates with the four-pearl Marriott NiagaraFalls Fallsview Hotel & Spa

Fairmont Royal York
100 Front Street W

The glamorous Fairmont Royal York is one of Toronto's grand dames, with hand-painted ceilings and chandeliers that harken back to the hotel's opening as the Royal York in 1929. Some rooms are on the small side (not uncommon in a historic hotel), and the beds and furniture look a little generic for a luxury property. But the location is as good as it gets: The hotel is connected by underground PATH walkways to Union Station, Air Canada Centre, Eaton Centre, and the Hockey Hall of Fame, and is blocks from shopping on Yonge Street.

Chelsea Hotel Toronto
33 Gerrard Street W

With 1,590 rooms, the upper-middle-range Chelsea Hotel, Toronto is the largest hotel in Canada. The Family Fun Zone has a massive indoor pool complete with a water slide and an arts and crafts area resembling a kindergarten classroom. The on-site pub is a draw for adults, offering nightly entertainment that showcases local indie bands as well as jazz and blues ensembles. The 27th floor has an adults-only pool, E-Club Lounge with a gorgeous rooftop deck for Club Room guests, and an enormous glass-encased fitness center with state-of-the-art equipment. Although the rooms are bland and carpeting is a bit dated, all things told, the Chelsea Hotel is a great value, particularly for families, as the property goes above and beyond the call of duty to make kids feel special.

Hotel Clarendon
57, Rue Sainte-Anne

The historic 143-room Hotel Clarendon is an upper-middle-range property with Art Deco Art Nouveau accents in the heart of Old Quebec. Modern rooms with vintage flare have Keurig coffeemakers, flat-screen TVs, and marvelous views of Old Quebec, and some have iPod docks and bathrooms with separate walk-in showers and jetted tubs. The on-site restaurant and Jazz Bar receive good reviews, but there is often a cover charge to attend the live music performances. On-site parking also incurs a fee as well and there is no fitness center. Guests looking for amenities like a fitness center and spa services may want to consider Auberge Saint-Antoine, an upscale choice in Old Quebec, though rates will be higher.

Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac
1 Rue des Carrieres

The 611-room Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac is a grand, luxury Quebec City landmark known for its ornate interiors and gorgeous chateau-like exterior. Most rooms were renovated in 2014 and feature sophisticated decor, sleek bathrooms, and wonderful river or Old City views. However, non-renovated entry-level rooms are tiny for the price (they start at 175 square feet) and some guests find them dated rather than classic. Dining is a highlight here, with four outstanding restaurants that range from the formal Le Champlain to the more casual Bistro Le Sam and the 1608 Wine & Cheese Bar. With extensive, decadent meeting space, the hotel draws many business travelers, but the heated indoor pool, spa, and gym are also great perks for leisure guests. For something more casual, consider the slightly cheaper Auberge Saint-Antoine.

Hotel Plaza Quebec
3031 Boulevard Laurier

River Rock Casino Resort
8811 River Rd

Less expensive than many high-end downtown Vancouver hotels, this upscale property offers a genuine (though somewhat Las Vegas-like) resort experience. Ideal for travelers of all sorts – business, international, couples, or families – this place has it all. Kids love the waterslide attached to the pool, and the jungle motif. Fun-loving adults can gamble, dine at upscale or casual restaurants, use the huge gym, or unwind in one of the spa's six private treatment rooms. There's live music four nights per week at Lulu's Lounge, plus the Show Theater with big-name acts regularly. There are plenty of meeting rooms, banquet halls, and conference facilities available. The attached SkyTrain station provides super-quick access to both the airport and downtown Vancouver. The place is great for relaxation (and potentially, moneymaking or breaking), an oasis all its own but also well-connected to Vancouver.
