The property is housed in Lloret’s former casino. It is an old, tired building in need of urgent, extensive renovations. Many rooms have balconies that overlook the pool, which is mostly quiet during the morning -- when young revelers are sleeping through their hangover. The lobby is a bright space with floor-to-ceiling windows, a couple of sitting areas with dated decor, and a few vending machines. Most guests are young Europeans here to party hard, and the lobby is frequently overrun with loud groups of teenagers and travelers in their early 20s. There have been reports of rowdy parties going through the night in the hallways and rooms, making it hard for the rest of the guests to sleep. The hotel closes during the winter months.

H Top Gran Casino Royal is located just off one of Lloret’s main thoroughfares. The main bus station is just a couple of minutes’ walk from the main entrance, and there are many bars and restaurants nearby. Those looking to relax at the beach can find two nice stretches of sand within a 15-minute walk. Girona-Costa Brava Airport, served by low-cost airlines, is a 25-minute drive away. Barcelona can be reached by car in just under an hour.

The hotel features 411 rooms, all featuring furnished balconies overlooking the pool or the neighboring soccer stadium. Rooms are showing extensive wear and tear, and feature old tube TVs, and mostly poorly maintained bathrooms -- but little else. Decor is dated and basic, with orange walls, tired dark wooden furniture, gray terrazzo floors, pink bedspreads, and a single old-fashioned painting above the bed. Complaints of lack of cleanliness are common here. Soundproofing is lacking, so sleep quality can be poor during peak season.

The hotel is geared towards all-inclusive guests (though other meal plans are available), with a restaurant that serves a buffet for all three meals, and a large popular bar. There are a few family-friendly amenities, including a kids’ club complete with a game room and activities, a playground, and a kiddy pool -- but this is probably no place for children during the summer months. There is a small business center with four computers, and Wi-Fi throughout, though both are for a fee.
