Hyatt Place Charleston/Historic District is one of the newer chain hotels in downtown Charleston, and it shares the same roof as Hyatt House Charleston - Historic District. The lobby is bright and fresh with several small lounge areas and a rather understated reception desk. Decor is modern, with various neutral-toned furniture, large paintings, potted plants, and contemporary light fixtures. The breakfast area offers a relaxing environment with a combination of cafe-style and bar-style brown leather seats with a large buffet station and limited decor. The adjacent bar and 24/7 Gallery Menu and Market flow into the breakfast area with an open-plan layout. Guests are a combination of leisure and business travelers, as both the location and features suit both types of traveler.

While Hyatt Place Charleston/Historic District is located in the Upper King Historic District, it's slightly further out than other city center hotels. There are a handful of restaurants, bars, and shops within close walking distance from the hotel. The city of Charleston offers a free shuttle service around the city which stops directly opposite the hotel. Attractions like The Joseph Manigault House, The Charleston Museum, and The Aiken-Rhett House are all within a 10-minute walk from the hotel. Slightly further out attractions include the South Carolina Aquarium, the Historic Charleston City Market, and the Gibbs Museum of Art; each within a seven-minute drive. The Charleston Area Convention Center is 15 minutes by car. Charleston International Airport is 20 minutes away by car. For parking, there's a public lot owned by the city of Charleston adjacent to the hotel (for additional charges).

The 191 guest rooms are spacious and contemporary. Decor is fairly generic with standard gray carpeted floors, white and gray walls, white blinds, light wooden furniture, white linens, and contemporary artwork. Each room includes a separate "Cozy Corner" with a gray sofa or sleeper sofa and brown leather cushioned ottoman. Rooms include either one king-size bed or two queen-size beds. Amenities in all rooms include air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, tea- and coffee-making facilities, desks, telephones, irons and ironing boards, and free Wi-Fi. Bathrooms feature either walk-in showers or shower/tub combos, and come with hairdryers and KenetMD toiletries. Accessible-friendly rooms are available. Rooms on higher floors have lovely Charleston views. 

Like most Hyatt hotels, there is a wide selection of features available here. There's an extensive free buffet breakfast each morning, including both hot and cold options such as waffles, sausages, and mixed fruit. The 24/7 Gallery Menu serves freshly prepare meals throughout the day (and room service), along with light snacks and beverages on sale at the 24/7 Gallery Market. Hot and cold beverages, including beers, wines, and cocktails, are available at the Coffee to Cocktails Bar. There is a 24-hour modern fitness center with LifeFitness cardio and weight-training equipment, along with an indoor heated swimming pool. While no full spa facilities are available, there is a dry bar specializing in blow outs. For business travelers, 8000 square feet of flexible meeting space is available, along with a business center with remote printing and copying facilities. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property. Additional features include concierge service, valet service, and luggage storage. There is no on-site parking available.
