  • A 50-minute journey to major landmarks like St. Mark’s

Bottom Line

The Best Western Titian Inn Hotel is a modest value property located in a quiet residential area, just a five-minute drive from the airport. There are 55 rooms, ranging from compact Classics to spacious Suites. While all have the same amenities -- air-conditioning and heating, minibars, safes, telephones, and LCD TVs -- as of 2018, some rooms have yet to be refurbished and look dated. That fact aside, previous guests like the free parking, incredibly early breakfast service, free airport shuttle, and the low rates. This is a convenient, value property, but it’s not pretty and there’s nothing to do in the immediate vicinity. Stay at Hotel Al Ponte Mocenigo if you’re on a budget but don’t need access to the airport.

Best Western Titian Inn Hotel Venice Airport

Scene

Tucked away in a sleepy neighborhood, with mostly dated interiors and a staid vibe

The Best Western Titian Inn Hotel feels very much like the value airport property that it is. The design throughout varies from dated to more pleasantly modern in some rooms, but guests are here for convenience rather than style. Time seems to have stood still in the hotel’s rec rooms, with old-fashioned vending machines and hard plastic chairs feeling cheap and dated. The spacious lobby is a definite improvement, with some comfortable, bright leather sofas, plenty of glossy magazines, and a display cabinet of Murano glass. Even still, these areas were quiet during our visit, with most guests catching early morning or late-night flights. This hotel does offer competitive rates, but travelers will need to take long journeys away from the mainland to see major landmarks, so it’s not a good sightseeing base.

Location

In a residential area on the mainland, close to the airport and buses into Venice

This hotel benefits from a great airport-side location, but it’s not within walking distance of anything of interest for leisure travelers. Save a few small general stores and a pharmacy, this is a quiet residential part of mainland Venice. It is, however, close to the A4 highway, which is the main artery connecting Trieste to Milan, so for those looking to explore by car, it can be a good starting point. There are some other great transport links too, like the buses that run from the airport past the hotel and into Piazzale Roma (at the western end of the central Venetian islands) in just under 25 minutes. This is largely considered the gateway to the city and is crammed with airport buses, trams, and taxis. Here you can buy tickets for the vaporetto (water buses) along the Grand Canal. Venice’s top landmarks, like St. Marks Square, the Doge’s Palace, and the Rialto Bridge all take over 50 minutes to get to from the hotel via a bus to Piazzale Roma and then a water bus. Marco Polo Airport is a five-minute drive from the hotel.

Rooms

Function over form in practical but often old-fashioned rooms with LCD TVs and Sky Vision

The 55 rooms are best described as functional, with the most impressive bedrooms having been recently refurbished. Interiors in the newer Superior Rooms are contemporary, with stripy cream and brown carpets and furniture in dark-wood hues, plus chic gray chairs. The older Classic and Family Rooms are wildly different, with faded red carpets, dated fabrics, and old-fashioned upholstery on the chairs. The mostly neutral palette in the modern rooms works, with the browns and grays feeling cohesive and clean. The older rooms need major modernizing. Beds are comfortable across the board, and all rooms have at least one desk chair, while the larger Family Rooms have separate seating areas.

Amenities include  26 and 32-inch LCD TVs with Sky Vision, free Wi-Fi, minibars, air-conditioning and heating, and telephones. Bathrooms feature a mixture of shower/tub combos or showers as well as hairdryers. The best options when it comes to bathrooms are -- again -- the Superior Rooms, which have freshly tiled bathrooms and modern glass doors. Older rooms have old-fashioned shower curtains.

Features

Free Wi-Fi and car park, free airport shuttle, and an early morning breakfast

The list of features is short at this hotel, but those that are offered are particularly helpful for travelers. There’s a large parking lot that guests are free to use without any additional cost. It’s enclosed within the property too, so it feels safe, and has plenty of room. A shuttle bus is also available and takes guest to and from the airport for a small fee. Finally, there’s an early morning breakfast which begins before dawn, something that previous guests really appreciate. It’s a standard spread of foods such as croissants, meats, cereal, and juices, though most who have stayed here find it more than ample. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel, though there's also a computer station if you need it.
