A sculpture of two early pioneers gives a nod to the American West. A distinctively modern oval chandelier hangs above a cozy cluster of sofas and chairs facing the fireplace. It’s about an eight- to 10-minute drive south of downtown Flagstaff, its Amtrak station, and Northern Arizona University. It’s surrounded by businesses and several restaurants -- the closest is a two-minute walk from the hotel. A Walmart is a two-minute drive or a six-minute walk away. The Flagstaff Pulliam Airport is six minutes away by car, and Grand Canyon National Park is about 80 minutes away. Sedona’s airport is about a 50-minute drive from the hotel, and Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is a little more than two hours away.

The 126 rooms at the Hampton Inn & Suites Flagstaff display the straightforward hallmarks and functionality of the Hampton chain -- walls and drapes in light to dark beige, wood furniture, well-placed reading lights -- but there's also a slight Southwestern accent demonstrated in landscape artwork. Some Kings feature whirlpool tubs and microwaves and mini-fridges, which are not included in Standard Kings and Double Queens. Standard amenities include coffeemakers, 32-inch flat-screen TVs, laptop desks, free Wi-Fi, and Neutrogena toiletries. Suites have kitchenettes with full-size refrigerators, two-burner stove tops, microwaves, and dishwashers. While rooms are generally quiet, those facing the interstate can pick up traffic noise. Some of the rooms offer nice views of the surrounding mountains, while others overlook the parking lot.
