The 281-unit Park Hyatt Hamburg has a great central location on the Monckebergstrasse promenade, the city’s most popular shopping area. The main train station, the Warehouse District, the Old City, and several other attractions are within a 15-minute walk. Each one of the hotel's rooms is astonishingly spacious, and comes with a flat-screen TV, shower/tub combo, and free Wi-Fi. The hotel's off-site parking and breakfast -- though vast and scrumptious -- can be pricey, but for families, Park Hyatt offers substantial discounts for separate children’s rooms, and supplies cribs, baby chairs, pint-size bathrobes, and baby shampoo.

Apartment-Hotel Hamburg Mitte lacks Park Hyatt's killer location and luxury status, but its apartment-style units and Family Rooms (some can sleep up to six) make it a great pick for travelers with kids. Most of the spacious rooms have well-stocked kitchenettes, and all have balconies. The 120-room hotel is about three miles from the city center in an uninteresting corporate area that's about 25 minutes from downtown via public transit. 

Holiday Inn Express Hamburg City Centre is closer to downtown than Apartment-Hotel Hamburg Mitte (it's a five-minute walk to the two nearest U-Bahn stations that connect to the city center in under 10 minutes), but since Apartment-Hotel Hamburg Mitte has kitchenette-equipped rooms, it gets the upper hand for families. Holiday Inn Express's rooms don't feature minibars or fridges, though there are Family Rooms with sofa beds for up to two kids. All rooms include 32-inch flat-screen TVs (with a few English-speaking news channels), black-out curtains, pillow menus, and comfy beds help with a good night's sleep. Wi-Fi is free of charge and reliable. 

A chic, U.K.-themed hotel with a party vibe might not seem like a good pick for traveling families, but the stylish George Hotel doesn't charge for children younger than eight, and offers breakfast discounts for kids up to 12. Snazzy rooms come with flat-screen TVs, minibars, kettles, and free Wi-Fi, and suites have separate tubs in the bathrooms. The hotel's on-site restaurant serves all three meals; the restaurant is pretty pricey, but parking here is free.
