Bottom Line

The Midtown Inn is a no-frills, budget property that’s a short drive to the Wynwood Art District and a 10-minute drive to the Port of Miami cruise terminal. Its 50 rooms are sparsely decorated with dated decor and furnishings that include tube TVs. Guests complain of poor cleanliness and maintenance issues, however, and the surrounding area is somewhat sketchy. Other than a small outdoor pool, amenities are limited, but the hotel does serve a free continental breakfast, and there's free Wi-Fi. For something cleaner and in a better location, budget travelers might want to consider Suites on South Beach Miami or the Kent Hotel.

Oyster Hotel Review

Midtown Inn Miami

Scene

Budget motel-style property with dated interiors

Midtown Inn Miami is an older, motel-style property with exterior hallways wrapping around its cream-colored facade. The small reception area features decorative floor tiles paired with slightly worn, antique-style chairs upholstered in velvety fabric. The space is functional, with racks of tourist brochures on hand and not much in the form of decor or lounge seating. While the hotel is fairly clean overall, some of the corners are a bit dingy and dirty, and the cinderblock walls don’t lend a festive vacation atmosphere. In short, this property is for convenience only.

Location

On a busy main road in a gritty area, a short drive to Wynwood Art District

The hotel is situated on busy Biscayne Boulevard, in a highly-trafficked and somewhat gritty area surrounded by fast food restaurants and gas stations. It’s located right off Interstate 195, so it’s a 15-minute drive to Miami Beach and about a 10-minute drive to the Port of Miami. Buses to Miami Beach stop a few blocks from the hotel. The Wynwood Art District is nearby, and the Wynwood Walls street art gallery and area restaurants can be reached in about five minutes by car. Miami International Airport is a 20-minute drive.

Rooms

Basic rooms with dated, spartan decor

The 50 rooms are basic, with dated maroon and gold floral comforters on old and somewhat creaky mattresses. Rooms have been updated with gray tile floors, though the simple, wooden furniture shows signs of age, and TVs are of the older tube variety. The rooms also have mini-fridges, microwaves, hairdryers, irons, and ironing boards. Bathrooms are small with curtained stall showers or narrow shower/tub combos. (The tile grout is not the cleanest.) There have been many complaints about maintenance and cleanliness issues, plus some guests have spotted bugs including cockroaches.
