The Hampton Inn-St. Charles Avenue is a boxy, clay-colored building in the Garden District, known for its gardens and Italianate, Greek Revival, and Victorian-style mansions built after the Louisiana Purchase for New Orleans' wealthy new American residents. The Garden District maintains this elegant, quiet, green residential feel today. 

The hotel's interior exudes warmth, using yellow- and green-hued walls and furniture to punch up the otherwise generic space. A small seating area across from reception, with striped cushioned chairs and coffee tables, opens up into a spacious breakfast area where guests can grab anything from omelets and waffles to cereal and fruit.

The hotel is located in the Garden District on St. Charles Avenue, right on the streetcar line. Magazine Street, with its numerous shops, boutiques, restaurants, cafes, bars, and art galleries, is five blocks away, and the French Quarter is a few streetcar stops downtown (the stop is Canal Street Carondelet), while Audubon Park and Zoo is a few stops uptown (the line runs as far uptown as Palmer Park in Carrollton).  

Like the common areas, rooms at the Hampton Inn-St. Charles Avenue are understated and somewhat generic, with a lot of beige, gray, and light wood; they use yellow and green hues to add vibrancy. Standard Rooms, which come with two double beds or one king-size bed, are spacious and include workspaces, 32-inch flat-screen TVs, microwaves, mini-fridges, coffeemakers, and free Wi-Fi. Suites with separate living areas, sofa beds, avenue views, kitchenettes, and whirlpool tubs are also available. Bathrooms include shower/tub combos and a great deal of counter space, and are stocked with Neutrogena toiletries. 

The hotel serves a substantial free breakfast that includes hot and cold items, with a to-go option available during the week. The hotel also has a narrow, rectangular courtyard pool, with lounge seating and a covered patio, along with a small business center and meeting room. The Hampton Inn does not have an on-site fitness center, but offers free passes to a gym that's a block away. Free tea and cheese are served in the afternoons.
