Bottom Line

The upper-middle-range Hotel Wales is a charming boutique property situated a block away from Central Park and Fifth Avenue's Museum Mile in the quiet, residential Upper East Side. Popular breakfast/brunch destination Sarabeth's East occupies the hotel's ground floor and provides room service, and there's also an Italian restaurant on-site. Free tea and coffee in an inviting lounge is a nice perk, as is the lovely rooftop terrace. Other features include a meeting room, business center, and a small fitness room with a couple of machines. The 89 contemporary guest rooms are a bit small, but come with flat-screen TVs, iHome docks, and free Wi-Fi, plus some suites have kitchenettes. The nearby Franklin NYC doesn't have as many features, but it does offer a free breakfast as well as an afternoon wine and cheese presentation.

Charming boutique hotel with inviting, elegant interiors

This charming boutique hotel is what you'd expect from the quiet Upper East Side neighborhood it resides in: a bit posh yet inviting, with elegant interiors that hint at history (the building is over 100 years old). Cream, beige, and rich brown hues cloak the lobby, which pairs handsome leather armchairs and dark wood furnishings with cream-colored wainscoting and floral wallpaper in milky coffee shades. A fireplace adds both grandeur and a sense of coziness to the space. The hotel has two popular restaurants, both airy, elegant spaces that are filled with natural light thanks to large windows overlooking the street outside. The dining spaces draw locals and hotel guests, making for a nice atmosphere. Overall, it's a great base for leisure and business travelers alike, while the larger suites with kitchenettes draw families and guests on extended stays.
