The two-pearl Hotel Helvetia is a simple budget property without pretense or any attempt to offer much beyond its functional rooms with desks, showers, small flat-screen TVs. Spaces are comfortable and generally well-kept, but bathrooms, while tidy, have stall showers with stained grout. The hotel is close to cafes, bars, and restaurants around the Place de la Bastille, and it's also just a block away from the massive Gare de Lyon train station, making it a convenient spot for travelers planning day trips. There's a breakfast room and free Wi-Fi througout, but no other on-site facilities. Compare with the Hôtel du Prince Eugene, a boutique with similar rates and amenities, but much more style.  

The 50-room Hotel Belloy Saint-Germain is an upper-middle-range and homey retreat in the Latin Quarter of Paris. This hotel charms with classic decor and exposed brick walls, and offers great amenities including 24-hour front desk service, safe deposit boxes, a cozy cellar breakfast room (plus room service), and a business corner. Classically decorated rooms have flat-screen TVs, minibars, and some have balconies. Guests complain, however, that small rooms and bathrooms can feel cramped. The Hotel Pas de Calais is similarly priced and its rooms tend to be a bit larger.

The 46-room Villa Montparnasse is an upper-middle-range hotel with traditional Parisian decor located in an artistic neighborhood, 15 minutes' walk from the Luxembourg Gardens. Classic rooms all have minibars, flat-screen TVs, and air-conditioning, but furniture shows significant wear and tear, detracting from the elegance a bit. Some rooms have exceptional views of the the Eiffel Tower in the distance, though Montparnasse Cemetery is in the foreground. Cocktails and wine are available at the lobby bar, and there is a splendid outdoor seating area at the entrance to the hotel. Room service is available 24 hours a day and breakfast is free. Downsides include a weak Wi-Fi signal and lack of on-site parking, and guests looking for slightly fresher rooms may want to consider Aviatic Hotel, a 10-minute walk from Villa Montparnasse, though rooms will be slightly more expensive.

The Montalembert is an oh-so-chic upmarket hotel in the heart of fashionable Saint Germain, surrounded by Michelin-starred restaurants, designer boutiques, and antique furniture shops. Dating from the mid-1920s, the hotel retains much of its Art Deco-era elegance. All 50 guest rooms were updated in 2017 with smart and stylish decor, and some upper-level suites open to balconies with partial Eiffel Tower views. Carrara marble bathrooms feature luxury amenities, but kettles and coffeemakers aren't standard (suites add Nespresso machines). Dining is excellent and attracts locals, and while there are no on-site wellness facilities, guests can use the gym at the property's sister hotel just a short walk away. There's also a lovely library with a fireplaces that's a popular haunt. For an equally posh but traditionally styled stay, check out Hotel Duc de Saint-Simon in the neighboring 6th Arrondissement.

The Hotel Duc de Saint-Simon is a classic choice for those seeking a traditional Parisian hotel with romantic and historic flair. This is where Lauren Bacall stayed while in Paris (always in Suite One, if you're wondering), which might help describe the clientele here: people of a certain age, with a certain budget. Most of them are quite loyal to the hotel, thanks to its atmosphere and great Left Bank location in tony Saint-Germain-des-Pres. Saint Simon serves breakfast and cocktails in its underground cave, which is richly decorated with oil paintings and Persian rugs. A similarly ornate, Old World decor is found in all of the 34 rooms, which include flat-screen TVs, large bathrooms (by European standards), and plush bathrobes. For a high-design hotel with more amenities, like a spa and full restaurant, check out the nearby Bel Ami Hotel.

Hotel Le Six is a 41-room boutique hotel situated on a quiet street near the lively Latin Quarter. Its contemporary rooms include minibars, espresso machines, and handsome slate bathrooms with robes and L'Occitane products. Additional hotel perks include a spa with hammam and several lounge areas for reading and having a glass of wine. While Le Six lacks a full restaurant, it serves an organic French breakfast daily, and fiber-optic Wi-Fi is free. Prices may be higher than at nearby hotels, but the excellent design, breakfast, and location make this hotel a wonderful option for couples, families, and business travelers. For a cheaper option closer to Saint Germain, look into Holiday Inn Paris-St. Germain des Pres, a solid pick but without Le Six's wellness/fitness facilities.  

Hotel De Buci by MH is the quintessential French hotel in the quintessential Parisian neighborhood. The four-pearl property stands in St-Germain-des-Pres in the 6th Arrondissement, with 24 guest rooms that feature chateau-style decor—colorful toile wallpaper, ornate canopies, and pinch pleat drapes—and upscale amenities like flat-screen TVs, well-stocked minibars, electric kettles, and L'Occitane bath products. The hotel's best features is its incredible location, surrounded by countless shops and cafes, and within a short stroll of iconic spots like Les Deux Magots and Cafe de Flore. There's no full-service restaurant or wellness amenities on-site, but there's a daily breakfast buffet for an extra charge and free Wi-Fi. Travelers looking for a hotel in the hood with a gym and spa might prefer the pricier Relais Christine. 

The 29-room Hotel Moliere is an upscale, boutique property exceptionally well-situated in Paris' 1st Arrondissement, within a three-minute walk of the Palais-Royal and a six-minute walk of the Louvre. The common areas are an elegant blend of classic and modern style, and though guest room decor is more neutral, rooms are large and include such amenities as well-stocked minibars and espresso-makers. The hotel has a small fitness area, sauna, and steam room, plus a chic breakfast room, though breakfast is not included in the room rate. While the Moliere is excellent value for the location, travelers might want to also check out the nearby Hotel Brighton, which sits alongside Tuileries Garden and has fun extras like a bar and tea room with designer pastries, though it has no fitness or wellness center, and tends to be slightly pricier. 

An historic grande dame of a hotel on the Place des Pyramides, the Regina was renovated in 2014 but maintains a classic, elegant ambiance. It opened for the 1900 World’s Fair, and more recently has served as the filming location for "The Bourne Identity." Facing the Louvre, Tuileries Gardens, and Eiffel Tower on the opposite side of the Seine, Hotel Regina features 119 rooms and 15 suites that mix period furniture with modern amenities such as flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi. Guests might want to also check out the Regina's sister hotel, the Raphael, which is near the Arc de Triomphe, as prices here can be quite high.
