Pros
- Housed in a gorgeous 19th-century mansion
- Central location a few minutes' walk from Notre-Dame Cathedral
- Five minutes from direct train connection to airports
- Some guest rooms have views of the cathedral
- Elegantly finished rooms include 32-inch flat-screen TVs
- Large lounge with honor bar
- Free Wi-Fi throughout
Bottom Line
Melia Colbert is an exquisite piece of Parisian architecture with an enviable position just minutes
from Notre-Dame by foot. Local transport links are also excellent, especially
to the airports. Rooms are elegant with modern touches, though spaces
are typically small -- especially bathrooms. The cellar breakfast room can feel
a little pokey, but the lounge bar is lavish and spacious. Classical refinement
at a prime location doesn't come cheap, so if the Melia Colbert is out
of budget, check out the similar Hotel Residence Henri IV a few blocks away.

Beautiful 19th-century mansion with Louis XIV-style touches
The Melia Colbert is named after the street on which it’s located, which previously was dedicated to Jean Baptiste Colbert, a minister to Louis X. Built in 1856, the hotel was once a lavish private mansion which has been meticulously renovated (in 2000 and 2010) and retains all of its previous classical finesse -- from the ivied path leading to the quintessentially Parisian entrance to wrought-iron balconies and decorative flower boxes. First impressions are close to picture-perfect. The traditional chic continues into the bright, high-ceilinged lobby area, emphasized with Louis XIV-style furnishings finished in velvet and gold leaf stationed primly on polished marble floors. The mood is hushed refinement with a real flavor of 19th-century elegance.
Location
Enviable central location, steps from the Seine and with easy airport access via train
The hotel is in a prime location -- a quiet and narrow street halfway between Saint-Michel and Notre-Dame. Located in the 5th arrondissement, Melia Colbert is a minute stroll from the Seine and its riverside booksellers in the heart of the Latin Quarter. Considered the very center of Paris, the Île de la Cité is five minutes away on foot and features the famous Notre-Dame Cathedral. The hotel is also within a five minutes' walk of several train stations, one of which -- Saint-Michel - Notre-Dame -- connects north and south Paris and provides direct access to Charles de Gaulle and Orly airports.
Rooms
Classically styled rooms include modern tech and antique furnishings
Spread across five floors, the hotel's 39 rooms are all decorated in tastefully muted tones with classically styled furnishings, including gilt-frame mirrors and antique pieces. In-room tech includes free Wi-Fi and 32-inch flat-screen TVs with satellite channels; all units are also air-conditioned and offer well-stocked minibars. Bathrooms can feel a little cramped but are crisply finished, and many include tubs. Some of the higher-level rooms also feature views of Notre-Dame Cathedral.
Features
Large, elegantly styled lounge with honor bar and free Wi-Fi
Amenities at the Melia Colbert are generally limited, with no on-site gym, restaurant, or spa. A full breakfast buffet is served in the hotel's old vaulted cellar, which may feel a bit pokey to some. Breakfast also isn't generally included in the rate and is pricey. There’s a large, traditionally styled lounge bar with antique furnishings, a marble fireplace, and an honor bar. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property, and a business center with a computer terminal and printer is on hand as well.
