Hotel Wolf-Dietrich

Hotel Wolf-Dietrich is a historic hotel with romantic charm catering mostly to couples looking for an intimate stay in Salzburg. It's split into two buildings, the Residenz and the Altstadthotel, which are located opposite of each other and aren't connected. The reception is located in the Altstadthotel building and includes a small area with antique wooden furniture and a faded Oriental rug leading up to the front desk. The interior decor of the hotel aims for romantic and classical elegance with antique furniture, maroon hallway carpets with floral designs, random colored (turquoise or yellow) walls, and colorful plush armchairs, but some items could use an update. The breakfast room, also in the Altstadthotel building, has a large, airy atmosphere with white tables, red and green chairs, large antique rugs, and a skirted buffet table. There's also a sunny outdoor patio with brown woven seats and wooden tables surrounded by greenery. The Residenz building only houses guest rooms, so travelers staying there will need to cross over to the other building to use amenities. 

Hotel Wolf-Dietrich is centrally located in Salzburg, right next to Kapuzinerberg Mountain, with the city's oldest fortifications, and most of Salzburg’s attractions are in easy walking distance. The Mirabell Palace and its gardens is an eight-minute walk from the hotel. Mozart’s home, Mozart’s Geburtshaus, takes 10 minutes to reach on foot, and Mozart's final resting place, St. Sebastian’s Cemetery, is right next door. For shoppers, the historic shopping street of Getriedegasse is a 12-minute walk away, located in the Old Town (Altstadt) district. A variety of restaurants and bars are in the surrounding streets and can be reached within two to five minutes on foot. However, Salzburg Airport requires an 18-minute drive to reach. 

Hotel Wolf-Dietrich offers a variety of room types: Single Rooms look like a small dormitory. Double Rooms and Suites offer more space, and Family Suites have lounge areas, pullout sofas, and separate bedrooms. A few rooms have furnished patios with lovely views. Rooms differ drastically in their decor as well. Higher room categories have romantic details -- chandeliers, floral curtains, canopied beds, and crown molding. But Single Rooms are stripped down with little more than a blond-wood desk and built-in wardrobe next to a solitary twin bed. The hotel also offers themed "Lover Suites," with more flamboyant decor, such as a faux tree with a canopy of leaves framing the bathroom entrance or a gilded clawfoot bathtub under a painted mural of the pyramids.

All rooms have flat-screen TVs, DVD players, and minibars. Rooms in the Residenz building have air-conditioning. (Rooms without AC have fans.) The bathrooms in the rooms differ as well. Some have only a tub or a shower, and others have a shower/tub combo, though all include a hairdryer. Most of the Standard Room bathrooms are quite small and lack counter space, and guests complain about the lack of toiletries and threadbare towels. 

The hotel's best feature is its indoor pool and sauna. Though the pool is small, it has a jet stream, though no loungers. Those can be found in the sauna area, which also has showers and an infrared cabin. This space doubles as a treatment room for massages that can be booked through reception.

The hotel's free breakfast has a variety of options, and guests can request gluten-free or salt-free bread and lactose-free milk. As an afternoon snack, the hotel provides a free cup of coffee or tea and a slice of cake in their coffee lounge. And the on-site bar serves drinks 24 hours a day. A free DVD library is available from the front desk, a perk families appreciate, along with the children’s game room. Two computer workstations are available for guests' use, and there's off-site parking, for a fee.
