The NH Salzburg City's exterior -- a contemporary gray and tan building -- is grand, if a little forgettable. But things liven up a bit in the cheery lobby, which has wood-paneled walls and funky conical light fixtures, but still retains a businesslike air of formality typical of chain hotels. The Papeo Bar has dark wooden tables with bamboo centerpieces, while the restaurant has sleek dark-brown tables and retro red light fixtures hanging from the ceiling. Arguably the most attractive space is the outdoor terrace, outfitted with brown woven patio furniture on a paved spot surrounded by potted plants. Although the overall vibe is best matched to business travelers, it's also a good option for tourists who want a central place to stay and aren't in search of something more historic or classically Austrian. 

NH Salzburg City is centrally located in Salzburg, right next to Kapuzinerberg Mountain, home to the city's oldest fortifications. There are plenty of restaurants in the immediate vicinity and many of Salzburg's best-known attractions are within walking distance. Mirabell Palace and its gardens are an eight-minute walk from the hotel, while Mozart’s house takes 11 minutes to reach on foot. The composer's final resting place -- St. Sebastian’s Cemetery -- is a five-minute walk away. For shoppers, the historic shopping street of Getriedegasse in Old Town (Altstadt) takes just over 10 minutes to reach on foot. The Salzburg Airport is a 15- to 20-minute drive away. 

Rooms at the NH Salzburg City Hotel are simple but tasteful and modern, with dark-wood furniture and splashes of red in curtains and armchairs. Standard and Basic Rooms aren’t very spacious, though they do have small closets and shelves built into the walls. Superior Rooms offer more space and separate lounge areas with sofas and chairs. All rooms have flat-screen TVs, air-conditioning, safes, and minibars, and Superior Rooms also come with kettles, capsule-style coffeemakers, bathrobes, and slippers. White-tile bathrooms are small, though they do have a fair bit of counter space on granite vanities and come with hairdryers, magnifying mirrors, and basic toiletries along with shower/tub combos. Overall, rooms get good feedback, though there have been some complaints of technical issues with the in-room air-conditioning, TVs, and Wi-Fi. 

NH Salzburg City's Papeo Restaurant serves dishes from around the world, with an emphasis on Austrian and Mediterranean cuisine. There's also a breakfast buffet with hot and cold items, but it's not included in room rates, and guests find it on the pricey side. Room service is available 24 hours a day and Papeo Bar serves drinks and snacks both indoors and on the hotel's terrace. The hotel's four meeting rooms have little in terms of decor, but they do include whiteboards and a good selection of audiovisual equipment. There's also a small fitness center and a sauna. There's no business center, but Wi-Fi is free throughout the property. Guests with cars can park in the on-site garage (for a fee), and bicycle rentals are available from the front desk. Pets are welcome with advanced notice, for a fee.
