Villa Kubu Seminyak
Jl. Raya Seminyak Gang Plawa no. 33F

This upscale property has 17 private villas and is centrally located in a residential area with attractions a short drive away. Each large villa has a soft, modern Balinese design and includes kitchenettes, robes/slippers, minibars, and upscale sound systems. Additionally, all villas have outdoor spaces with small private pools and garden areas. Some guests have mentioned, however, that the outdoor bathrooms lack privacy. Spa Venus is a major plus and The Oasis Restaurant and Bar is generally well received, though prices are high. Wi-Fi, an area shuttle, made-to-order breakfast, bike rentals, and butler service round out the amenities.

Bali Agung Village
Jl. Sarinande no. 3

The 41-room Bali Agung Village is a good mid-range choice in the heart of Seminyak, just a five-minute walk from Seminyak Beach. Traditional Balinese rooms have air-conditioning plus furnished terraces in addition to walk-in showers with rainfall showerheads. However, some rooms are small and have tired style. The on-site restaurant and poolside bar also offer good value for the money, and there are freebies including breakfast, sometimes sluggish Wi-Fi, babysitting, and an area shuttle. The hotel isn't the best choice for those in need of pampering -- for that, consider the Villa Kubu, with its modern rooms, spa, and butler service, but expect to spend far more money.

Villa Coco
Jalan Arjuna, Gang Villa Coco

This mid-range villa hotel in the heart of Seminyak is a family-friendly resort with easy access to shopping as well as Double Six, Legian, and Kuta beaches. Gardens surround each bungalow and villa, and while rooms vary in size and features, all have a simple, breezy style and modern perks like free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, and air-conditioning. Indoor/outdoor configurations and private pools are available. There's also a main pool with a poolside bar, and though there is no proper restaurant, in-villa dining is available. For a stylish, traditional hotel closer to Seminyak Square, travelers should consider Ize Seminyak, which has sleek and modern interiors.

The Oberoi Beach Resort, Bali
Jl. Kayu Aya

The 74-room Oberoi Bali is a verdant, luxurious beachside resort in Seminyak. With large rooms and extra large villas tucked onto a 15 acre property, it's easy to feel cloistered in this tradition-focused hotel, though it remains within walking distance of the restaurants and nightlife the area is known for. The Oberoi skillfully combines luxury with simplicity and charges the surroundings with Balinese history and culture, including bi-weekly dance performances and daily offerings in the hotel's temples. Rooms feature tasteful, modern Balinese-inspired decor and bathrooms with sunken marble baths and showers; some of the villas also have private pools. There are two restaurants and a bar on-site, as well as a luxurious spa with open-air treatment rooms overlooking the gardens, a fitness center, and pilates and yoga classes on offer. Though there's only one pool on the grounds, the resort also has direct beach access. Travelers might want to compare rates with the nearby Seminyak resort as well, a similar beachfront property with a spa.

The Elysian
Jl. Sari Dewi No.18

The Elysian is a luxury boutique hotel offering a romantic, peaceful stay a short distance from Seminyak Beach and world-famous Ku De Ta beach club. Its 26 One- and Two-Bedroom Villas are stylish and luxe, with private pools, contemporary decor with artsy local accents, and upscale amenities such as Apple TVs pre-loaded with movies, deep soaking tubs, and daily turndown service. Couples are drawn to the serene atmosphere that includes a long lap pool with cabanas, a small spa with treatments for two, and an intimate restaurant serving international cuisine. Rates are on par with most other luxury villa hotels in the area, though it may be worth considering The Kayana Bali on the northern side of town.

The Haven Bali Seminyak
Jl. Raya Seminyak 500

The 192-room Haven Seminyak Hotel & Suites is an upper-middle-range property offering several wonderful fountain features as well as restaurants, shops, and beaches within a 15-minute walk. Contemporary rooms have large windows, minibars, walk-in showers with rainfall showerheads, and coffeemakers, and some also have deep soaking tubs, kitchenettes, butler service, and private pools. However, some rooms pick up street noise. The two beautiful outdoor pools plus the on-site restaurant and bar all receive good reviews, and there is an on-site spa, a fitness center, and a business center. A free shuttle to Seminyak beach is provided. The Bali Mandira Beach Resort & Spa has two pools and direct beach access, but higher rates.

The Seiryu Villas
Jl. Drupadi no. 8

The Sieryu Villas is a three-and-a-half-pearl boutique property that's within walking distance of downtown Seminyak, and a short drive to the beach. The few common areas have serene, Japanese-inspired decor, with rock gardens and jade statues. Its hotel's eight villas are elegant, but they aren't lavish. Jute couches in living rooms don't have plush cushions, beds aren't luxuriously dressed, and kitchens, while fully equipped, need to be updated. The villas' best features are their long plunge pools and attractive bathrooms with deep soaking tubs. On-site facilities are limited -- there's no restaurant or gym -- but there's free breakfast, Wi-Fi throughout, and shuttle service to town. Those looking for a similar property with better amenities may wish to consider The Amala Hotel, though rates are slightly higher.

Puri Saron Seminyak
Jl. Camplung Tanduk

This mostly contemporary upper-middle-range hotel is centrally located between Seminyak Beach and the famous Double Six Beach. The 115 rooms are showing signs of wear, but they're equipped with flat-screen TVs, tea- and coffee-making facilities, and minibars. All have furnished outdoor spaces, while some add four-poster beds and private swimming pools. An array of features includes a large swimming pool with a swim-up bar, children's play area, spa, and two restaurants. Food receives mostly positive reviews, though the breakfast buffet included in most rates could reportedly use more variety. Free Wi-Fi adds to its value. It's worth comparing rates with the nearby Pelangi Bali Hotel, which has better maintained rooms.

The Wolas Villas & Spa
Jl. Yudistira 18

The Wolas Villas & Spa is an upscale, all-villa property located in a quiet neighborhood on the outskirts of downtown Seminyak, about a 10-minute drive from the beach. The 16 one-bedroom and two two-bedroom units are spacious, with decor that fuses elegant, modern construction with a Balinese aesthetic. All have open-air living rooms, kitchens, and plunge pools surrounded by wooden decks. Pathways leading to the villas are lined with tropical greenery, and hotel facilities include a restaurant that serves continental cuisine and Asian fare. There's also a small spa with private couples massage rooms, though we found that it shows some wear. Travelers looking for more luxurious villas that are closer to the beach can consider Maca Villas.

eqUILIBRIA SEMINYAK
Jl. Wirasaba no. 5, Off Jalan Kayu Aya, Seminyak

The upscale eqUILIBRIA SEMINYAK is composed of 25 chic, modern villas with light-filled, minimalist interiors, attractive outdoor pools, and luxe bathrooms with soaking tubs and walk-in rainfall showers. Large living rooms are full of modern tech like iPads, iPods, Bose sound docks, and Playstations (bedrooms lack TVs however). Other perks include 24-hour butler service and freebies like all-day breakfasts and cooking classes. The hotel also offers an outdoor pool for common guest use, as well as a spa, fitness center, and a poolside bar serving drinks and snacks -- but there's no full restaurant. The location is convenient; it's close to plenty of dining and shopping on Seminyak Square, and within a 15-minute walk of the beach. For a comparable alternative, check out Maca Villas & Spa, which has a restaurant on-site (but lacks fitness facilities).
