Hotel Sa Barrera
Carrer Sa Barrera, 12

The three-pearl Sa Barrera is an extravagantly decorated, family-run hotel located in the small, low-key resort of Cala'n Porter. Set on the top of a cliff, the picturesque Cala'n Porter cove is a 10-minute walk away and the resort center is just minutes on foot. The 26 ornately styled guest rooms won't suit all tastes, but they have fast, free Wi-Fi and extend to large balconies -- some with glimpses of the sea. A sunny swimming pool is lined with comfy loungers, but that's about it for leisure facilities. A rather underwhelming breakfast is included, though the hotel's Italian restaurant offers an excellent dinner menu in a romantic candlelit setting. For those looking for something a little different, this unashamedly flamboyant occasionally chintzy hotel is ideal. With its adults-only policy, families with kids may wish to consider the Hotel Playa Azul, practically opposite.

Hotel Playa Azul
Paseo Maritimo, 27, Cala'n porter

The Hotel Playa Azul is a relatively small and unpretentious three-pearl property set on the small clifftop resort of Cala'n Porter, overlooking part of its beautiful, sandy cove. Interiors are simple, bright, and modern throughout, including the 126 guest rooms, most of which open to balconies or terraces -- some even featuring sea and sunset views. Leisure facilities are limited though the sunny pool terrace provides a pleasant spot to sunbathe and take a dip. Half-board comes as standard, with the option of an upgrade to all-inclusive, and buffet dining is decent enough. Most tourists will find everything they need for a relaxing and straightforward break here; for a little more character and free in-room Wi-Fi (though no elevators) check out the Sa Barrera just along the road.
