Son Bou Gardens Apartments
Calle Bellamirada; San Jaime Me s/n

The three-pearl Son Bou Gardens Apartments is an apartment-style resort in lively Alaior. It's located a five-minute walk to Son Buo Beach and surrounded by a handful of restaurants, bars, and shops. The 512 homey apartments all include three bedrooms, washing machines, dining areas, kitchens, and private balconies. Units are spread across five zones, with four swimming pools and two restaurants dotted around each area for easy access. There's also an on-site supermarket and coffee shop/bakery. Kids have access to a game room, playgrounds, and a waterslide at one of the pools. On the downside, expect to pay extra for sun loungers, Wi-Fi, and air-conditioning. The nearby Sol Milanos Pinguinos offers similar features with more polish, plus it has a fitness center with spinning classes.

Premium residence Menorca Binibeca
Paseo Mar s/n, Urbanizacion Binissafuller

The Vanity Eden Binibeca is an upscale, adults-only hotel with a prime setting on a low cliff overlooking the sea and scenic village of Binibeca Vell. The atmosphere both in the hotel and the surrounding area is quiet and laid-back, with little in the way of local nightlife, though two sandy beaches are within walking distance. Its 150 rooms and suites were spruced up in 2014, and all superiors and suites open to sea-views -- some from terraces with whirlpool tubs. Sea vistas can also be enjoyed from one of the three pools as well as the buffet restaurant's alfresco terrace. A decent spa, included half-board meal plan, and free Wi-Fi complete an impressive package. For a more rustic and secluded child-free stay, check out the nearby Biniarroca Hotel, though it's inland so it lacks sea views.

Biniarroca Hotel
Cami Vell 57

The Biniarroca Hotel is an upper-middle-range, country retreat housed in an 18th-century farmhouse set in lush, secluded gardens. While there's little within walking distance, the island's capital, airport, and several lovely beaches are an easy drive away. An adults-only environment adds to the already-serene rural atmosphere, while a focus on food makes for some wonderful (if pricey) dining. Two pools provide enough relaxation space for all, though spa facilities are limited to a single treatment room. Its 18 guest rooms and suites follow the cozy rustic theme, albeit with basic amenities for a supposed four-star hotel. Another comparable option around the same price is the Hotel Rural Binigaus Vell, closer to the island's center and with its own stables.

Hotel Club Sur Menorca
Urb. Biniancolla

Hotel Club Sur Menorca is a mid-range, all-inclusive resort with a water park in Punta Prima. The beach and town are not within easy walking distance, but there is a free shuttle bus. The resort's 252 rooms are extremely simple, but do have balconies and flat-screen TVs. Bungalows are more modern and have kitchenettes and larger bathrooms. Two outdoor pools include a family option, and other amenities include a kids' club and various sports. There's a Mediterranean buffet restaurant serving free breakfast, and there are poolside and lobby bars. Decor throughout much of the property could use an update, and there can be crowding at the water park (which costs an extra fee) and at the restaurant during meals. As an alternative, Hotel Xaloc Playa is walking distance from the beach, but lacks a water park.

Hotel Agamenon
Calle Agamenon 16

Hotel Agamenon is a simple, mid-range property with a waterfront setting overlooking the sweeping harbor of Mahón. While its Es Castell neighborhood is largely residential with few tourist attractions, the pretty port of Cales Fonts offers dining options within walking distance. The hotel's main selling point is its 75 guest rooms, all of which provide some kind of harbor view, with higher levels showcasing superb panoramas. That said, decor is a bit dated in rooms and throughout the property. Buffet dining is decent enough though hardly outstanding, and leisure facilities are limited to an outdoor swimming pool. Mature clientele are drawn to its particularly quiet vibe. Travelers seeking a bit more liveliness can check out the Artiem Carlos III just along the harbor; food is also better and there's a small spa, though prices are notably higher.

Artiem Carlos - Adults Only
Calle Carlos III 2-4

The Artiem Carlos III is a four-pearl, adults-only hotel located in the quiet Es Castell neighborhood just outside the Minorcan capital. This sixties-era property was totally revamped in 2010 in the Artiem chain styling, with a bold, fresh contemporary look inside and out. Most of its 85 guest rooms open to balconies with spectacular panoramic views over Mahón harbor, while all feature comfy beds with pillow menus as standard. Highlights also include a small spa, saltwater swimming pool, and spacious sun terraces with direct access to the sea. The food is also a real selling point, with top quality breakfast and dinner buffets, plus an alfresco dining terrace. All this, plus friendly staff, free fast Wi-Fi, and direct access to the sea add up to an impressive package. For easier sightseeing, however, Artiem's more centrally located Hotel Capri is within walking of most attractions; or for a bit more historic character, the Hotel Port Mahon is one of the city's oldest.

Hotel Club Sunway Punta Prima
Venda de Sa Punta s/n

The Hotel Club Punta Prima is a mid-range resort complex composed of numerous low-rise bungalows scattered around extensive gardens. Its clifftop setting makes for some spectacular views and peaceful surroundings, though the Es Pujols beach and resort are a 10-minute walk away. The 125 rooms are simple and rustic. Some are on the cramped side, though others feature sea-view balconies or terraces. Half-board rates are standard and impressive buffet dining is offered on a lovely alfresco terrace. A saltwater pool, sun terrace, and man-made beach also provide sea vistas. Note that kid-friendly facilities are limited. For a little more charm, check out the Hotel Casbah, which has more attractive rooms in a pine forest setting.

Smartline Cala'n Bosch
Final de la Via de Circunvalacion

Smartline Cala'n Bosch is a three-pearl, all-inclusive resort hotel with a prime position overlooking a pretty sandy beach of the same name. It's certainly family-friendly, with plenty for youngsters including a jungle-themed splash park with waterslides. Updated in 2015, the 188 guest rooms feel modern yet a little sparse, with most featuring sea views -- though others just overlook a car park. The neighboring beach soaks up any overspill from the modest-sized pool, and loungers are rarely in short supply. Food and drink included in the plan won't wow, but generally score above average for a hotel of this ilk. All-in-all its a simple and unpretentious hotel that offers great value, though for those preferring pools over beach, the nearby all-inclusive Sol Falcó features an impressive seven of them.

Apartamentos Roc Lago Park
Calle Alisos S/n

Apartamentos Roc Lago Park is a budget family resort, situated a five-minute walk from the beach in Cala d'en Bosch. The white facade and surrounding gardens give the resort a Mediterranean feel that unfortunately doesn't extend to the 200 apartments. One- or Two-Bedroom Apartments include a kitchenette and additional amenities like air-conditioning and flat-screen TVs, but are plain. Each has its own private terrace or balcony; some overlook the marina. The restaurant serves a buffet breakfasts, lunches, and dinners, and meal packages are available. There are two outdoor swimming pools, along with a poolside snack bar and daily activities for kids and adults. Wi-Fi is available in the common areas for an additional charge. Travelers can also look at Sol Falco for more modern rooms and additional facilities.

Sol Falco by Melia -All Inclusive
Avda. Son Xoriguer s/n, Cala´n Bosch

The 450-room, Sol Falcó is a three-and-a-half-pearl, all-inclusive complex particularly popular with families located in Minorca's sedate Son Xoriguer neighborhood. While there's little in the immediate surrounds, two local beaches and the buzzier Cala'n Bosch resort center are within strolling distance. An impressive seven pools means there's always space for a splash about, and children are well catered for with playgrounds and kids' clubs. Most agree the dining could be better, however, and the lack of a second restaurants means mealtime can get raucous. While rooms are bright and contemporary with outdoor space, there's else little else to make the hotel really stand out from the crowd. Those after sea views and direct beach access should look towards the Smartline Cala'n Bosch nearby or Sol Milanos Pingüinos.
