Aparthotel Holiday Center
Avda Ramon De Moncada, 40

Apartamentos Holiday Center is a simple, mid-range Balearic-style apartment complex located a short stroll from Santa Ponsa's large sandy beach and lively nightlife. Despite its location, it's relatively peaceful and family-focused, and is one of just a few places in the area where stag and hen parties are not allowed. Updated in 2015, all the apartments are clean and contemporary and open to balconies or terraces (leading to inevitable street noise in some). The lack of any real sea views, fairly small pool, and inconsistent food quality are the main flaws, though most enjoy the hotel's relaxed vibe and a kids' club helps keep the little ones occupied. For sea views and a larger pool check out Apartamentos Verdemar just up the hill, though it charges for sunbeds.

Globales Apartamentos Nova
Avenida Cas Saboners 6

Set in nicely landscaped grounds, Globales Nova Apartments has some of the lusher surrounds in Palmanova. While the gardens could even be described as secluded, the town's sandy beaches are less than a five-minute walk away. Magaluf nightlife will take about 10 to 15 minutes to reach on foot. The 135 apartments are a little dated, though clean and pleasant, with kitchenettes and balconies -- some even have sea views. A choice of indoor and outdoor pools is a treat and food from the poolside bar-restaurant is pretty good. All in all it stands out as a solid bet for the mid-range category. Alternatively, the nearby Sol Lunamar Apartments has a similar list of features and a no-kids policy that pleases its guests.

Hotel TRH Torrenova
C/ Torrenova 25 - 27

Hotel TRH Torrenova is a functional, budget apartment hotel located within a five- to 10-minute walk of Magaluf's nightlife and two long sandy beaches. The 199 studio and one-bedroom apartments are basic and dated in both decor and amenities, and are prone to inevitable noise, though most do open to balconies with superb sea views. The pool area is tired and and in urgent need of a refresh, as is the hotel as a whole. There's also a small playground, a pool bar, and a simple restaurant. While the hotel might fit the bill for guests who need nothing more than a crash pad, the Hotel Florida -- just two doors down -- is a good-value pick that's better looking and has a bit more charm.

Hotel Riu La Mola
Carrer Maryland s/n, H/2430, Playa de Migjorn

With well over 300 guest rooms, the Hotel Riu La Mola is certainly a contender for the largest hotel on the island. Its beachfront setting, surrounded by pine forests, is certainly picturesque and, besides the hotel itself, there's little else in the way of buildings to spoil the remote feel. Most of the rooms, suites, and bungalows got a makeover in 2015 and many enjoy sea views, though some are still awaiting renovation. Facilities mostly come in pairs with two eateries, bars, and swimming pools, plus there's plenty here for kids and a decent spa. All in all, for a relatively upscale resort-style hotel, this is one of the best options. Those looking for a little more Balearic chic will prefer the Blanco Hotel Formentera on the north coast.

Apartments Paraiso De Los Pinos
Es Mal Pas

The Apartments Paraiso De Los Pinos is an upscale property located in a quiet setting in Migjorn, as the south end of Formentera island. The beach is within walking distance, but town is a taxi or bike ride away. Free bikes are available at the property. Whitewashed buildings and tropical gardens give the hotel a relaxed yet stylish feeling. The 28 minimalist-chic apartment-style rooms have an open layout, kitchens, and balconies -- but present privacy issues. Bungalows with private hot tubs are available. Features include free buffet breakfast, a restaurant, spacious outdoor pool, and hot tub. The hotel is popular among families. Es Mares Hotel&Spa has a spa and chicer rooms, at similar rates.

Hostal Mari
Calle del Progres 42

This family-owned, 38-room value property is open year-round and popular with return guests for its home-away-from-home feel. With friendly service, affordable rates, and a welcoming vibe, Hostal Mari has become a favorite in San Antonio. While Standard Rooms have classic, old-fashioned furniture and decor, the upgraded Superior and Premium Rooms are modern and fresh. Premiums also have extra features like large terraces and sleek bathrooms. A continental buffet breakfast and half-board (or a la carte) options are available at the popular attached restaurant and bar. Outside of a sparsely decorated and dated lounge area, there's not much public space. Fun extras include jazz performances and bike rentals, but no housekeeping on Sundays and no pool on-site can be deal breakers for some. For a value property with a pool, check out Hostal Tarba down the street.

AzuLine Hotel Galfi
Avenida Doctor Fleming S/n

Hipotels Eurotel Punta Rotja & Spa
Avenida del Pinar S/N

The Hipotels Eurotel Punta Rotja is an upper-middle-range property set among the scented pine forests of the upmarket and largely residential neighborhood of Costa de los Pinos. The 203 rooms are smart and functional: They all have flat-screen TVs and open to long furnished balconies with either sea or mountain views (though some overlook scrub). Water-based facilities impress with a two-tiered outdoor pool, kids' pool, and two indoor pools, and the spa offers a dizzying array of treatments. Breakfast buffet costs extra and there's not much else in the area apart from Costa dels Pins shingle beach and golf course within walking distance. Those who want to be nearer the action, and the beach, should consider the Protur Alicia Hotel which also has an infinity pool with sea views.

Hotel Roc Illetas
Passeig Illetes 62

Roc Illetas is a relatively small, three-pearl hotel complex set into the cliff overlooking the sea, just a few minutes' walk from the pretty cove of the same name. While the local beaches can get busy, the area is peaceful and offers easy road access to Palma. Decor in the hotel's 124 guest rooms and apartments can be rather underwhelming and dated, but the superb sea views are quite the opposite. Features include a two-tier pool that overlooks the water, a heated indoor pool and whirlpool tub, and sun terraces with direct access to the sea. However, the terrace gets shade in the afternoon, some areas don't have enough loungers, and the hotel doesn't have a fitness center. There's no kids' club or animation program, either, so families might prefer the more kid-friendly Hotel BonSol Resort next door, which also has an outstanding spa.
