Hotel Indigo Stratford-upon-Avon is a charming, historic hotel that dates from the 16th century. Though it’s a blend of Old English public spaces and modern rooms, it embraces the atmosphere of "merry old England" in the city of Shakespeare’s birth. The restaurant has exposed wooden beams and worn tables, which mix well with high-backed leather chairs and elegant table settings. The Oak Bar offers a relaxed and cozy space to have a drink in the evening. But other spaces like the reception area, feel more like a generic chain hotel. Updates to the rooms and public spaces are planned for 2017. 

Hotel Indigo Stratford-upon-Avon is convenient for exploring all things Shakespeare. The Royal Shakespeare Company, Shakespeare’s birthplace, and his grave at Holy Trinity Church are a five- to six-minute walk away. A range of restaurants, bars, and shops are on the surrounding streets. It’s a 40-minute drive to Birmingham Airport or an hour and half to London Heathrow International Airport. 

The 83 rooms at the Hotel Indigo Stratford-upon-Avon preserve little of the property's Old English-style, save for the rooms in the historic part of the building, which have rustic beams and lattice windows. Decor is similar across all room types -- brown carpeting with swirly tan patterns, white beds with brown throw pillows, and pops of color in fuchsia chairs. All rooms come with free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, kettles, and safes; air-conditioning is planned to be added in 2017, along with other updates. Tan-tiled bathrooms have shower/tub combos, and hairdryers, and Pascal Morabito toiletries are provided. 

Dining is a focus here. Will’s Place Restaurant has a classy vibe and local cuisine, while the Lounge Bar has daily specials. Travelers can grab a glass of wine, beer, or cocktail from the cozy Oak Bar. A full English breakfast or continental buffet is offered daily for a fee, as is afternoon tea in the Scholar’s Tea Room or in the outdoor courtyard garden, which has seating and lovely plants. Though it isn’t well-known as a business hotel, the Indigo does offers four function and meeting rooms. Wi-Fi is free throughout, and on-site paid parking is available.
