Oak Hotel occupies a red brick building on a narrow street set back from a busy main road. The lobby and other public areas are simple and functional, with many signs and notices, bulletin boards, and displays of tourist brochures. The lounge area is made up of two large leather couches and a loveseat where guests can relax and enjoy a drink from the vending machines. Once a month, the management organizes a party with sushi, pizza, and free drinks for guests. This is a popular hotel with budget travelers, most of whom travel as couples or solo. Many are repeat visitors.

Oak Hotel is located in Tokyo's Higashi Ueno district and is just a three-minute walk to the Inaricho subway station, located on the Ginza line from where it's easy to reach the Ginza and Shibuya districts. Ueno train station, a major transportation hub, is a 10-minute walk away, or one stop on the subway. The area is mostly residential with some small businesses like restaurants and convenience stores. Ueno Park is within walking distance, where guests will also find several museums, like the Tokyo National Museum, Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum, National Museum of Nature and Science, as well as the Ueno Zoo.

Oak Hotel offers clean and comfortable single, double, and twin rooms, as well as dorm rooms with a maximum of two bunk beds, sleeping up to four people. There are also traditional Japanese-style rooms available, with tatami mat floors and futon beds. Most rooms are small and cramped, with low ceilings and most of the floor space taken up by the beds. Interiors are simply decorated, with spare, drab furnishings, two-tone wallpaper in beige and cream hues covering the walls, brown carpeting, and beige bed covers. 

The dorm rooms do not have any extra amenities apart from air-conditioning and free Wi-Fi. Private rooms, however, are equipped with flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, and coffee- and tea-making facilities. Other handy extras include toiletries, slippers, Japanese robes, and hairdryers. All rooms have tiny bathrooms, which are too small to fit two people at the same time. These are typical Japanese-style bathrooms fitted with shower-tub combos and plastic molded sinks squeezed between the tub and toilet. 

This budget hotel offers few extra features, though there are some simple facilities that cater to budget travelers. There is no breakfast service, but guests are free to use the well-equipped kitchen, which includes a microwave, toaster, and stove. A coin-operated washing machine and dryer is also available for laundry. There's a small lounge area with couches and vending machines selling soft drinks and different types of hot coffee. Three computers connected to the Internet are available for guest use in the lobby. There are also electric bicycles for rent. Other useful services include a coin locker, luggage storage, and fax and photocopying. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel.
