Comfort Inn at Thousand Hills
203 S Wildwood Dr

The Comfort Inn at Thousand Hills is a budget hotel just off 76 in Branson, but its modern style and cleanliness make it seem like rates would be higher than they generally are. A large, lodge-inspired lobby has lots of comfortable seating and the breakfast area is contemporary, though small and crowded on weekends. Many major sights are within walking distance, but a rental car is necessary to truly explore the area. Rooms are decorated in chain-standard style and basic colors, but they're clean and have tiled bathrooms with granite countertops. Some bathrooms are small, though, and other rooms suffer exterior noise. There's also a fitness center, indoor pool, hot tub, and sauna, as well as free Wi-Fi and an extensive, free hot breakfast.

Holiday Inn Express Branson - Green Mountain Drive
2801 Green Mountain Dr

The Holiday Inn Express Branson-Green Mountain Drive is a simple, modern, eco-friendly hotel located within walking distance of both downtown Branson and local attractions and restaurants. The busy street and traffic may be an issue, though. Room design features standard chain fare (with flat-screen TVs, microwaves, and mini-fridges), but the lobby is surprisingly attractive with artistic light fixtures and a dark wood and marble front desk. Some rooms are large with walk-in showers and jetted tubs, while others lack bathroom and counter space. There is free Wi-Fi and a free breakfast that gets good reviews, along with helpful concierge services and a 24-hour game room. The pool, hot tub, and steam room are open late and are popular with families.

Stormy Point Village
132 Cape Cod Dr, Summer Winds Resort

Tucked away in the Orzak Mountains, Stormy Point Village is an upscale timeshare resort designed like a quaint Cape Cod town. This family-friendly property offers a couple hundred charming stand-alone cottages with up to four bedrooms, full kitchens with washer/dryers and dishwashers, fireplaces, and private porches, all set on lovely (yet hilly) grounds overlooking Table Rock Lake. The outdoor pools and picnic areas are great for the warmer months, but a full entertainment program with seasonal activities is available year-round, and the indoor pool and gym are fantastic perks for the colder days. The property is somewhat secluded but offers easy driving access to Branson and Silver Dollar City, each located within 15 minutes of the resort. For something closer to town, consider Best Western Center Pointe Inn, though they lack full kitchens and only have microwaves.

The Cliff House at Pikes Peak
306 Canon Ave

The most luxurious hotel in the small, mountain town of Manitou Springs, the four-pearl Cliff House at Pikes Peak has roots dating back to the 1800s when it was a stagecoach stop. With a sumptuous restaurant and plenty of meeting and event space, the 54-room hotel is well-suited to business travelers and groups. Rooms are spacious and cozy with flat-screen TVs; some have fireplaces and one is an upscale teepee. Reasonably priced compared to luxury chain hotels in Colorado Springs, the Cliff House is also a good choice for couples and families wanting to be within walking distance of shops and cafes and within easy reach of nearby natural attractions like Pikes Peak and Garden of the Gods.

Avenue Hotel Bed and Breakfast
711 Manitou Ave

This cozy, three-pearl bed and breakfast is an ideal option for couples and families with older children looking to be in the heart of Manitou Springs. Situated at the foot of Pikes Peak, the Avenue is a dolled-up home with large, comfortable bedrooms and homey decor. The inn is within walking distance of coffee shops and antique stores, and is a 15-minute drive from downtown Colorado Springs. Piping hot breakfasts are served at the communal dining table; guests looking for more privacy can have their morning meals delivered to their rooms. An outdoor whirlpool adds a romantic touch.

Hampton Inn & Suites Air Force Academy
1307 Republic Dr

This three-pearl Hampton Inn is geared toward people visiting the nearby Air Force Academy, a seven-minute drive away. With spacious and immaculately clean rooms, free breakfast and Wi-Fi, plus a large indoor pool and fitness center, the hotel is ideal for Air Force guests and families or business travelers who don’t mind short drives to get around the area. However, it's in a bit of a bland neighborhood (although there is a bowling alley and a cinema nearby) and takes 15 minutes by car to reach downtown Colorado Springs.

The Broadmoor
1 Lake Avenue

Located on Cheyenne Lake at the foot of the Colorado Rockies, The Broadmoor is an iconic luxury property covering a vast estate of over 3,000 acres. Guests can choose to stay in one of the 779 rooms and 107 suites, rent one of the two brownstone villas, or choose “The Wilderness Experience” and stay in one of 10 rustic cabins at The Ranch at Emerald Valley. This lavish property offers a vast range of services and amenities, with eight on-site restaurants, three swimming pools, three hot tubs, three golf courses, multiple tennis courts, a full-service upscale spa, state-of-the-art fitness center, and 25 shops and boutiques. There’s also a wide variety of outdoor activities, including rock-climbing, fly-fishing, horseback riding, tennis, and cycling. Overall, guests rave about experiencing the Broadmoor's luxury on a grand scale, though some find its traditional style full of floral patterns a bit dated.

Wailea Beach Resort - Marriott, Maui
3700 Wailea Alanui Drive

After a top-to-bottom $100 million renovation in 2016, the four-pearl Wailea Beach Resort - Marriott, Maui feels like a new property. The hotel’s 547 guest rooms are housed in low-rise buildings spread across the well manicured property. They’re decorated with sleek furnishings and are stocked with nice amenities like Nespresso machines and flat-screen TVs. Four pools and a water park cater to all kinds of travelers, and varied dining options keep the food scene interesting. Additional amenities include a spa, fitness center, family game room, and a small movie theater, but the biggest disappointment is the resort’s indirect access to Wailea Beach. Though it’s an oceanfront property, there is, ironically, no beach in front of the Wailea Beach Resort. Guests must walk to the nearby Grand Wailea in order to access the sand. Travelers looking for a truly beachfront property may prefer Marriott’s Maui Ocean Club, though it isn’t as upscale.

Fairmont Kea Lani, Maui
4100 Wailea Alanui Dr

Wailea's aptly named Fairmont Kea Lani is a "white heaven" indeed -- its 450 units sit on a 22-acre beachfront property that includes three outdoor pools -- one with a waterslide and another adults-only -- multiple  restaurants and bars, a luxurious spa, and access to world-class golf. Unlike its competitors, this property does an excellent job of keeping both couples and families happy without the long lines and battles for sun loungers by the pool. Oceanfront villas and suites are some of the largest in Maui, and all are equipped with flat-screen TVs, living spaces, marble bathrooms with separate tubs and showers, and furnished outdoor spaces. A 24-hour fitness center, daily activities, and wedding services round out features. A pricey daily resort fee (typical for Hawaii) covers self-parking, Wi-Fi, and snorkeling gear. Young couples may prefer the Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort, a trendy property with cascading pools.

Maui Coast Hotel
2259 South Kihei Road, Across the Street From Kamaole Beach I

One of the only hotel-style properties in Kihei, the three-pearl Maui Coast Hotel offers some of the best amenities in the area. The 265-room hotel has a beautiful pool, an on-site restaurant and pool bar, a modern fitness center, and a nicely maintained tennis court. Plus, it offers freebies like parking, Wi-Fi, and borrowable beach bikes. Rooms are traditional hotel-style spaces (not condo units) with flat-screen TVs, microwaves, and outdoor spaces, but decor is generic. Maui Coast is a three-minute walk from Kamaole Beach Park I, and within walking distance of local shops and restaurants. The nearby Aston at the Maui Banyan might appeal to travelers looking for condominium-style units, but the property lacks Maui Coast’s on-site amenities.
