First opened in 1972, Antlers at Vail had a major renovation in the early 2000s giving it a more contemporary mountain lodge look, though all of its condos are still privately owned and individually decorated. The seven-story building has a foundation of rough-cut exposed stone, part of which was constructed into a short tunnel, through which guests walk and arrive at the property's central courtyard. In the middle, a round piece of dramatic landscaping depicts two large elk, cast in bronze, vying for dominance on a rocky outcropping. Arched covered halls line the courtyard, and up above, all the condos are accessed through exterior walkways. Inside, the small lobby has a reception desk beside a lounge with two leather couches facing a gas fireplace. Most guests are families and couples, with the occasional business traveler. 

Antlers at Vail is in Lionshead village and within walking distance of everything in the area. It's a four-minute walk (or a quick shuttle ride) to the Eagle Bahn Gondola and to Lionshead Square. Vail has two tourist areas at the base of the mountain, Vail Village and Lionshead Village, each packed with shops, restaurants, and bars. Since Antlers at Vail is one of westernmost properties, it's a bit farther from the action than other Lionshead hotels, and not quite within walking distance of attractions in downtown Vail. However, the two villages are connected by a free bus system and there's a convenient stop right across the street from the hotel that can take guests there in less than 10 minutes. The Colorado Ski & Snowboard Museum is about a five-minute drive, and Denver International Airport is about two hours and 15 minutes away by car. 

The 87 condos are privately owned and consequently vary widely in decor; some embrace a rustic mountain look, while others are more contemporary, or colorful. Beyond that, they have more commonalities than differences. All have full kitchens with refrigerators, ovens and stovetops, microwaves, and coffeemakers. There's plenty of counter space, along with wood cabinets stocked with cookware and dishes, and even coffee and spices. 

Studios are a roomy 680 square feet, with king or queen beds, and living areas with sofa beds, dining tables, and stone hearths with gas fireplaces. Flat-screen TVs are wall-mounted, or more often than not, set into stone hearths next to or above the fireplaces. Private balconies are furnished with chairs and gas barbecue grills. One-bedroom condos add separate living rooms, but the bathrooms for both of these units are on the small side, with either walk-in showers or shower/tub combos. Some have family-friendly rooms with bunk beds (but they're in a hallway with doors, rather than proper bedrooms). Larger two- to four-bedroom condos add bedrooms with a mix of twin, queen, and king beds, and some have up to four bathrooms. Free Wi-Fi comes standard. 

Like many apartment-style hotels, this property has somewhat limited amenities, the most notable of which is no full restaurant or breakfast offered. However, an on-site chef serves seasonal items for room service, including breakfast burritos, hearty stews, and pasta. 

Outdoor facilities are a highlight. Situated just above Gore Creek, the outdoor sundeck is open year-round with pleasant views and two hot tubs. The small pool is heated and all are partially decorated with big natural rocks (that may be more of a hindrance than a fun addition). 

There's also no shortage of services and free perks. There's a sauna and fitness room with a treadmill, stationary bike, elliptical, free weights, and private changing rooms with showers. It's a small space that can't accommodate all guests, but free passes for the Vail Athletic Club (in neighboring Vail Village) are also included with standard rates. Free yoga classes are offered twice a week. 

On-site ski rental is an extra charge, but bikes, snowshoes, sleds, and GoPro cameras are available for free (first come, first served). There's also a (seasonal) grocery shuttle service. A business center has a pair of computers and printers at work desks with roller chairs, and there are seven meeting rooms. Free parking is available in an underground garage with two caveats; one car per condo, and booking must be direct, otherwise fees apply. Wi-Fi is free throughout. Some of the condos are pet-friendly for an extra fee.
