Tucked away from the main tourist-filled areas, Ca' d'Oro is situated in a quiet corner of the Cannaregio neighborhood. Entry to the hotel is through a typical Venetian courtyard and into the pleasant lobby, with its exposed lacquered wooden ceiling beams, natural stone features, and gleaming tile floor, which helps to set a cozy vibe. The lobby leads to a small bar/breakfast room, with more exposed beams and wood paneled walls. A room off of the lobby is where the breakfast is served and doubles as a bar later in the day, so guests have a space to unwind after a day exploring. It's a clean and well-kept place, if thoroughly old school, and the majority of guests are couples looking for a quiet retreat that's slightly removed from the busier parts of central Venice.

The hotel is located in a quiet alleyway in the Cannaregio neighborhood, and feels far from the busier parts of Venice. However, walks to most major tourist sights are quite short. The Rialto Bridge, which has a vaporetto stop, is only around five minutes away on foot. The edge of the Grand Canal is even closer and will only take three minutes to reach. Piazza San Marco and all of its sights, including the Campanile and Bridge of Sighs is only a 10- to 15-minute walk from the hotel. There are many attractions to be seen in the surrounding neighborhood, such as the Chiesa dei Santi, which will take one minute on foot, or the Chiesa San Felice Church, which is just a bit farther. Santa Lucia Station can be reached in 17 minutes by water taxi, and Marco Polo International Airport will take around an hour to reach by a combination of boat and car. Expect a 90-minute journey to Treviso Airport, via water taxi and car or cab. 

Rooms are clean and well maintained, though like most budget and mid-range properties in Venice, the look is old school. Classic details include wallpaper in a variety of earthy tones, wooden flooring, exposed wood-beam ceilings, and antique-style furniture. Rooms come in a range of sizes, from Singles to Suites, and larger units have seating areas. Some units offer views onto the smaller canals nearby. Standard features include desks, flat-screen TVs, electric kettles, air-conditioning, and free Wi-Fi. Keep in mind that air-conditioning is centrally controlled and may not always be the most effective. Bathrooms have shower/tub combos or shower stalls, plus bidets and heated towel rails. Counter space is limited in some, but wall mounted-hairdryers and toiletries are provided. 

This small hotel has few amenities, but the highlight is its small rooftop terrace, a charming space where guests can relax with a drink and watch the sunset after a day spent sightseeing. A free hot-and-cold breakfast is offered each morning and includes options like fresh fruit, yogurt, bread, pastries, eggs, and bacon. The hotel can assist with booking tickets and excursions, as well as airport transfers (for a fee). Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property.
