Bottom Line

With its four apartment-style rooms, the mid-range pearl Residence Palazzo Odoni guesthouse is a homey, welcoming hotel on a picturesque Venetian canal. The apartments are spacious and clean, with atmospheric Venetian decor, small kitchenettes, and bathrooms with jetted tubs. It's a little tucked away from the heart of the city on a quiet side canal, but all the city's major sights are within walking distance. The residence is popular with families, couples, and groups who want a bit of peace and quiet and affordable place to stay; those who want to be in the center of the tourist spots might be disappointed.

Residence Palazzo Odoni

Scene

Updated Venetian palazzo with atmospheric decor

From the outside, the Residence Palazzo Odoni looks very much like its neighboring buildings, all of which are modernized medieval Venetian palazzos. A brass plaque on the door signals that you've arrived at the guesthouse, and the lobby is similarly atmospheric, with a fuchsia chaise lounge, an elaborate statue lamp, and chiffon scarves weaved through the banister on the staircase. There's a bookcase with leaflets about the city and ornate wooden furniture. The look and feel is typically Venetian, with a mixture of colors and fabrics on display. There's a small courtyard with potted plants and classic Venetian architecture, although it's not a place for guests to lounge.

Location

On a picturesque canal in a quiet neighborhood, close to train and bus stations

The Residence Palazzo Odoni is easy to get to via public transport, as it's situated very close to the main bus terminal (Pizzale Roma, the city's busiest spot) and the train station. It's set in the Santa Croce district, which is reasonably quiet with some picturesque canals and not a great deal to see. The building itself is located on a quiet canal with a few cafes and restaurants nearby. However, the hustle and bustle of Venice and all the main tourist attractions are within walking distance; the Rialto bridge is a 15-minute walk away.

Rooms

Four large apartments with kitchens and heavy upholstery

There are four apartments at this tiny guesthouse, and they're generous in size and individually decorated in a style somewhere between Renaissance Venice and a standard, mid-range hotel. Common features include heavy, dark-wood furniture, as well as tile floors and heavy, patterned drapes; the furniture feels a bit dated, but is kept in good condition. Each apartment has a compact kitchen area with a sink, small stove, and microwave, as well as a separate living room with a flat-screen TV. Bathrooms come with jetted tubs and toiletries, although not all have showers. It's worth asking for one of the apartments with a canal view, as the other two look out over rooftops, a view that doesn't have quite the same charm.

Minimal communal features

As it's just a small guesthouse with four apartments, Residence Palazzo Odoni doesn't have a great deal to offer in terms of features. The front desk staff will offer advice about places to eat, shop, and visit. Free Wi-Fi is available.
