The facade of this hotel might fool some: The exterior looks a bit dated, with brass comprising the majority of the facade; however, the interior, which was completely renovated in 2015, is modern and stylish. Black floors and accent walls dominate the lobby, though the effect isn't overpowering thanks to open shelving filled with curios and furniture in bright greens and purples (it's more chic than it sounds). There's little seating in the lobby, and the only other common space is a simple breakfast room with large windows that let in lots of light and an interesting map of the city on the ceiling. Overall, the hotel itself is on the quiet side, as it attracts young couples and groups looking for a central base to explore the city from. 

Hotel Capricorno is about as central as you can get to see Vienna's top tourist sights. St. Stephen's Cathedral is a five-minute walk, Hofburg Palace is 15 minutes, and the opera house is a 10-minute walk. It's immediately by the Schwedenplatz subway station, the hop-on-hop-off bus, and trams, as well as within walking distance to the main shopping street (about a five-minute walk). For those looking to cut loose, the city's nightlife district is right outside the door. 

The bus to the airport is a five-minute walk from the property, and the total journey time there is about 25 minutes. The Westbanhof train station and Central train station are about about a 20-minute drive across the city. 

Thanks to renovations in 2015, rooms are modern and crisp, with warm woods, contemporary blues, yellows, and cranberries on the walls and accents, and trendy carpeting. Metallic wallpaper, large photo murals, and geometric-print fabric in many add stylish touches. Some rooms have balconies with views of the Danube. Guests should know that bed configurations vary, and many doubles are two single beds pushed together with two duvets (common in Europe), while others are true doubles. 

All rooms -- even those on the first floor and close to the elevators -- are quiet as far as noise from inside the hotel goes, though street-side rooms can be a bit noisy at night. Flat-screen satellite TVs in each room have several English-language Sky TV channels, plus there are tablets with information about the property and the city. Rooms don't come with coffee- or tea-making facilities, but they're available upon request. Also standard are well-stocked minibar and closets with safes. Bathrooms are on the small side, but they come with powerful showers, heated towel racks, hairdryers, and toiletries.

Breakfast in the dining room is free, well-reviewed, and the usual continental spread, with breads, cheeses, and made-to-order eggs. Free coffee and cake are offered every day in the afternoon, along with a variety of board games. Other than that, there are no other meals served on-site, nor any fitness or wellness facilities. Wi-Fi is free and available throughout the property, while on-site parking is relatively pricey.
