Bottom Line

The modern, mid-range Thon Hotel Brussels City Centre, with its blocks of neon color, embraces a '60s aesthetic. Its 454 rooms, many of which offer spectacular views of the city from their horizontal windows, include molded plastic chairs, tulip pedestal tables, and acidic green-and-yellow color schemes. Suites come with their own saunas. The lobby, with recessed LED lighting, glass dividers, and self-service check-in/check-out kiosks, opts for minimalism. Located on a busy ring road that's flanked by a pedestrian shopping area filled with fast-food joints and chain stores, the hotel is within a five-minute walk of popular Rue Neuve, and within a 15-minute walk of the Grand Place.

Oyster Hotel Review

Thon Hotel Brussels City Centre

Scene

Modern, with bold neon colors, in one of Brussels’ tallest buildings

Standing at about two dozen stories, this glass-and-concrete structure, on a part of the city's busy ring road, presides over a pedestrian square. It's anchored by a wide lobby filled with recessed LED lighting and backlit photo panels depicting Brussels' landmarks. The lime-green, hot-pink, bright-orange walls and furnishings lend a distinctly '60s vibe to the hallways and common areas, which are separated by glass panel walls.

Location

Across street from Rogier metro station, within walking distance of the Grand-Place

Set on a busy shopping square with large swaths of sidewalk, the hotel sits opposite the Rogier metro station, close to a handful of fast-food restaurants on a heavily trafficked street that comprises part of the city's ring road. The Jardin des Sculptures Botanique is three blocks away, and the Rue Neuve, filled with stores and restaurants, and one of the city’s most popular pedestrian areas, is within a five-minute walk. The Grand-Place is about 15 minutes away on foot. The airport can be reached in about an hour on public transportation, with a single transfer at metro Rogier, or is about a half-hour taxi ride, depending on traffic.

Rooms

Modern '60s-style rooms in acidic colors; many rooms have fantastic city views; suites have their own saunas

Rooms come in four sizes: Classic Room Double, Classic Room Twin, Superior Room, and Suites. The smaller Classic Rooms may be a bit on the snug side -- too small to pass a suitcase between the bed and the wall. All rooms, with their lime-green color scheme, tulip pedestal tables, standing arched floor lamps, and molded plastic chairs, offer a contemporary take on '60s style. All rooms come with mini-fridges, coffeemakers, digital safes, and flat-screen TVs. Superior Rooms and Suites have separate living areas and sofas. Suites come with Nespressoo coffee machines, and their own saunas. Bathrooms, with gray-veined marble tile, lack the flamboyance of the rooms but have separate walk-in showers in addition to the shower/tub combos. Superior Rooms and Suites come with bathrobes and slippers, and Molton Brown toiletries.
