Despite its seven floors and imposing structure, a lack of signs on the outside makes the IFA Beach Hotel easy to miss from the road, but the tucked away entrance at the end of a path flanked by tropical palms and colorful flowers also adds to the hotel's secluded atmosphere. Originally built in 1984, regular renovations mean the interiors are sleek and modern, awash with mirrors, glass paneling, and contemporary furnishings. The ambience is generally more sophisticated and "grown-up" than at many other hotels in the area, appealing to couples (who seem to come mainly from Germany and Scandinavia) looking for a more peaceful and relaxing break away from hordes of screaming kids.

The hotel is located right on the dark sandy beach of San Agustin on the south coast of Gran Canaria. Various shops, bars, and public transport links are within a few minutes' walk, while plenty of restaurants, bars, and nightclubs are located about half a mile down the road. The lively resort of Playa del Ingles is about two miles away, while Gran Canaria Airport is within a 20-minute drive. Parking at the hotel is available for a fee.

The hotel has 210 rooms, including Double Deluxe Rooms and Double Standard Rooms, and a Junior Suite, all of which are clean and modern with simple decor in muted tones and contemporary furnishings. The Junior Suite has a set-off sleeping area. Standard amenities include flat-screen TVs, minibars, safes, and Wi-Fi, but they all come with a fee. Rooms open to furnished balconies or terraces, many with views of the beach. Bathrooms are also clean and contemporary, and provide basic toiletries. Glass encased walk-in showers are standard.

A real highlight of the hotel is the large garden area, carefully landscaped with palm trees and blooming tropical plants. The heated swimming pools are divided with a landscaped island. Sun loungers, parasols, and a whirlpool can also be found on the terraces surrounding the swimming area. There is a nudist terrace located on the sixth floor. The beach can be reached directly from the hotel, though there aren't any facilities there. The hotel's main restaurant serves buffet-style meals throughout the day, and the Atlántic poolside bar has views over the sea. Indoors, there's a billiards table and full bar. Expect to pay for Wi-Fi, parking, and pool towels.
