Housed in a sand-colored building with small wrought-iron balconies, wooden shutters, and large stone entrance, the Radisson Blu oozes traditional local charm. Interiors, however, are stylish and contemporary throughout, with mood lighting, clean lines, large photos of Madrid landmarks, and a subdued palette with bright pops of color. The sleek, dimly lit lobby sets the tone for an upscale, design-focused stay, with dark floors and a mix of elegant library-style decor and stylish, playful details such as a backlit bar, retro lamps, and a few armchairs with flower prints and bold colors. Some of the architectural elements of the original building have been saved and repurposed, including the old wrought-iron elevator shaft that is now a cool, tiny art gallery showcasing famous artists.

The atmosphere here is relaxed but lively, as most guests here are couples and groups drawn by the hotel’s location within easy walking distance of most major attractions and hopping Huertas area.

The hotel is located directly on Paseo del Prado, a major thoroughfare connecting Atocha train station to the financial district. This area is known as the Art Triangle, as Madrid’s top three museums can be found in the immediate vicinity: right across the street is the Prado, just down the street is the Reina Sofia, and a three blocks north is the Thyssen Bornemisza; the Caixa Forum cultural center is also just a short block away. Additionally, most of the city’s main attractions can be found within an easy 15-minute walk of the hotel, including Retiro Park, Puerta del Sol, Plaza Mayor, Puerta de Alcala, and El Rastro Sunday flea market. Other sights, such as the Royal Palace and the cathedral are about a 25-minute walk away. High-speed trains stop at Atocha station, located a 10-minute walk down the street, and the hotel is a five-minute walk from two metro stops. The airport is a 25-minute drive or 40-minute metro ride away.

The hotel has 60 clean, modern rooms, all decorated by prominent Spanish designers Sandra Tarruella and Isabel Lopez in a soft neutral palette with pops of purple. Large black-and white photos of Madrid landmarks in lieu of headboards are stylish and elegant, while small seating areas with a round wooden table and a padded chair offer space to work or leave things. Quality beds are topped with thick duvets and several pillows, and small ottomans with foot rests can be moved to make room for an extra bed (which come for a steep daily fee). Rooms have a wide array of upscale amenities, including Nespresso machines, free Wi-Fi, large flat-screen TVs, and minibars. Individually controlled air-conditioning, free safes, and electric kettles are also available in all rooms; Executive Rooms and Suites feature robes and slippers as well.

Bathrooms are sleek and appealing, with dark floors and walls, large walk-in showers with rain showerheads, This Works toiletries, professional hairdryers, and heated towel racks. A few rooms have a small balcony overlooking the square, but interior-facing units have frosted glass windows overlooking a small courtyard and can be dark.

Cask is the hotel’s only restaurant, located on the lobby level and serving excellent Spanish cuisine in a stylish space with red chairs, large windows overlooking the square, and wooden floors. A large breakfast buffet is offered here every morning, but it is not included in all rates, and some may find it a tad overpriced. The hotel also offers 24-hour room service and the brand’s signature Grab & Run breakfast option for early departures. A a wide array of beers, wine and whiskeys are available at the tiny lobby bar, which also features outdoor seating by a gurgling fountain on the square. The spa is located on the lower level, and features soothing mood lighting, two treatment cabins, a jetted plunge pool, a sauna, and a relaxation area. Adjacent is the small fitness room, which has three cardio machines and provides free bottled water and fresh fruit. There are also three meeting rooms with natural light and catering services. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout.
