Bottom Line

The 35-room upscale Kouros Hotel & Suites is a boutique property with gorgeous views of the Aegean Sea. It's a 10-minute walk to Mykonos town's dining and nightlife, and there's an artsy, contemporary vibe throughout. Rooms are modern and fresh, with sleek design-conscious furniture and stunning views from balconies or terraces. The outdoor pool is gorgeous, and the adjacent restaurant and bar offer even more of those views. There are also a fitness center and spa. As an alternative, Hermes Mykonos Hotel also has spectacular views and is close to town, but it doesn't have a fitness center or hot tub.

Oyster Hotel Review

Kouros Hotel & Suites

Scene

Contemporary, artsy hotel with impressive sea views and relaxing atmosphere

In typical Cycladean style, the exterior of the hotel is crisp white and stone with blue accents. A giant pair of black-and-white lips behind the front desk sets the artsy scene here, and contemporary artwork is found throughout the hotel, including a life-size bright-red statue standing by the entrance and dangling rope sculptures. The lobby is airy and bright. Multiple seating areas and relaxing music encourage guests to hang out. The look borrows from today's minimalist design trends, but there are playful elements like cushions painted to resemble local cacti. Stone stairs lead to guest rooms, and everywhere guests turn there's another impressive view of the shimmering Aegean Sea. Seating areas along the way allow guests to pause and absorb it all. A small parking lot and road separate the hotel from the sea (and admittedly muddy up the view a bit), but everywhere from the pool to the restaurant are stylish in the extreme. Although the hotel welcomes families, couples and groups of friends are the most frequent guests.

Location

Adjacent to the sea, a 10-minute walk into Mykonos town

The hotel is situated on a hillside with picturesque views of the Aegean Sea and Mykonos' old and new ports. The town center is a 10-minute walk from the hotel, where there is a wealth of shopping, dining, and nightlife. Mykonos is high on many peoples' bucket lists, but keep in mind that the town can get spectacularly crowded in high season. For those who prefer not to walk, especially the uphill return to the hotel, there's a free hotel shuttle. Saint Stephanos beach and Little Venice can both be reached in about 15 minutes on foot. The Ornos resort area and Mykonos Airport are about 10 minutes away by car. The ferry terminal and new port are a five-minute drive from the hotel.

Rooms

Modern rooms with balconies and terraces offering incredible views

Rooms are super-modern and fresh. Contemporary minimalist furnishings are gray and white or natural wood, with clean lines and a stylish look. Abstracted figural artwork hangs on the walls, continuing the artsy vibe found in the hotel's common areas, and flat-screen TVs are mounted on the wall. Handsome marble floors look sharp underneath beds with white duvets, and some rooms have exposed wooden ceilings, lending them a bit of rustic authenticity. Rooms are fairly spacious, with the smallest starting at 20 square meters of space (269 square feet). Guests are greeted upon arrival in their rooms with free bottled water and goody bags with Greek candy. Some rooms offer free fresh fruit and wine, and all rooms include coffeemakers, air-conditioning, robes and slippers, and safes. Like the rest of the hotel, the sea views from balconies in rooms are stunning. Small bathrooms are sleek and clean with glass showers, above-counter sinks on wooden vanities, hairdryers, and high-end toiletries. Some balconies have outdoor hot tubs, and a Deluxe Suite has a private plunge pool.
