Scandic Holmenkollen Park was originally built in 1894 as a sanatorium for tuberculosis patients and became a hotel in 1914. The current structure of the hotel is built around the beautiful historic building, a charming wooden structure in the local Dragestil style, with gabled roofs and a tower that blends well with the modern extension. Views from the property over Oslo are exceptional. The high-ceilinged lobby features an atrium-like entrance and is decorated with striking pieces of art, such as a massive installation of shimmering icicle-like strands on one wall. The hotel's main restaurant, De Fem Stuer, has an ornate, lodge-like feel created by wood log walls in pink, orange, and green hues and a vibrant orange-and-brown carpet. Brass chandeliers, fireplaces, and large oil paintings of Norwegian landscapes enhance the scene. The property draws many business travelers with its ample meeting facilities, as well as leisure tourists who don't mind the distance into the city center.

The hotel is scenically situated on a hill in the residential neighborhood of Holmenkollen and offers beautiful panoramic views of Oslo. The property is a bit far from the city center, however, as it takes around 35 minutes via metro, including a 10-minute walk to the Holmenkollen Metro Station, which can be quite arduous on the way back due to the steep incline. Drives to the city center take about 25 minutes depending on traffic. There's not much within walking distance of the hotel besides the famous Holmenkollen ski jump and the Ski Museum, which are a six-minute walk away, while Korketrekkeren, a tobogganing track and former bobsleigh and luge track, is 25 minutes away via public transportation. The hotel is a 50-minute drive to Gardermoen airport.

These modern rooms vary in size, and though Standard Rooms are quite small, Superior and Deluxe Rooms offer more space, plus large Suites and Junior Suites are also available. Contemporary furnishings include sleek black headboards and wooden furniture paired with plaid armchairs, patterned carpets, and stone accent walls. Unfortunately some rooms look tired and show signs of wear and tear. Each room is furnished with a work desk, flat-screen TV, mini-fridge, tea/coffee facilities, and free Wi-Fi. Some rooms have private balconies with wonderful vistas of Oslo and the surrounding area, though this is not universal throughout the hotel. Black and white bathrooms are sleek and modern, with walk-in rainfall showers or shower/tub combos (some have both) as well as Face Stockholm toiletries, though sinks offer little vanity space. Some of the suites have saunas or hot tubs as well as extras like fireplaces and separate living areas.

The hotel's restaurant, De Fem Stuer, serves a free breakfast buffet with generous hot and cold option, as well as lunches and dinners with Norwegian specialties. La Pizzeria features pizzas made in stove ovens, while Kollen Bar K120 offers drinks near a fireplace and stunning views of the Oslo Fjord. Park Cafe serves coffee in an inviting lounge off the lobby. The in-house, full-service spa offers a variety of treatments including manicures and pedicures as well as body and facial treatments, plus it has a sauna. There's also an indoor pool open to all guests. The wooden-floor fitness center is large and has modern cardio and weight equipment. Bikes are available for rent as well, for those who need more options to stay active. The hotel draws many business travelers with its wealth of meeting spaces and conference facilities. Parking is free, as is Wi-Fi throughout the hotel.
