Saem Siemreap has a different vibe when compared to Siem Reap’s many boutique properties. It’s clean and modern, and yet the Khmer-style building, heavy use of teak, and authentic artifacts help create a traditional atmosphere. The high-roofed lobby is large and light, and open-air terra cotta-tiled corridors and verdant gardens add to the sense of space. The focal point here is the saltwater pool that's shaded by fragrant frangipani. Other notable features include the rather formal-looking Silver restaurant with its high-back chairs and white tablecloths, and a funky back-lit wooden bar. The hotel draws tourist couples and families, though rooms are far simpler than the hotel's common areas.

Saem Siemreap is located down a quiet dirt road in Siem Reap’s Sala Kanseng area, outside the town center. There are a couple of shops within walking distance, but little else. Siem Reap’s tourist center -- where guests will find the likes of Pub Street and the Old Market area -- can be reached in a five-minute tuk-tuk ride. There are plenty of tuk-tuks on stand-by outside the hotel to whisk guests into town. Angkor Wat’s temples are a 15- to 20-minute drive from the hotel, and the international airport is 15 minutes in the other direction by free tuk-tuk transfer. It’s a few minutes’ walk from the hotel to the Giant Ibis bus terminal, which has links to Phnom Penh and Bangkok.

There’s nothing wrong with the rooms here, though the traditional look isn't exactly exciting. Wooden floors, wooden furniture, and brown-and-white fabric details create a classic vibe, rather than embracing contemporary boutique style. Even so, they're a step up from the budget hotels that pack the town center. Amenities include air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi, plus coffee- and tea-making facilities and minibars. Basic bathrooms have shower/tub combos plus a decent amount of counter space. Robes, slippers, hairdryers, and toiletries are provided. Rooms start at 350 square feet (33 square meters) in the entry-level Deluxe Rooms, which are on floors two through four (reached by stairs or elevator) and have views of the area. Cabana Premier Rooms (37 square meters, or 400 square feet) are on the ground floor, close to the pool, and have terraces. Spacious Family Premier Rooms have two bedrooms and a living room.

Saem Siemreap has all the facilities guests would expect of a mid-size hotel. The focal point of the hotel is its large saltwater pool, which has a shallow end for little ones and plenty of sun loungers shaded by fragrant frangipani. There’s also a simple spa with a three-bed treatment room and sauna, and a fitness center with cardio machines and weights. The all-day Silver restaurant serves up Asian and Western dishes and guests have the choice of buffet and a la carte menus. A buffet breakfast -- with a good choice ranging from eggs to noodles -- is included in the rates. The hotel offers take-away picnics during day trips, which many guests take advantage of. For drinks, there’s the refined Ruby Lounge, the Lobby Lounge -- where afternoon tea is served (for a fee) -- and a poolside terrace. Room service is available, though not around the clock. Reliable Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel. Guests also receive free tuk-tuk transfers to and from the airport.
