Bottom Line

The Hotel Al Duca di Venezia offers a quiet retreat that’s hidden from the bustling Venice tourist areas. The 13-room hotel features traditional Venetian decor, exposed wooden ceiling beams, and a comfy lounge with an Internet corner. There's also a stylish, classically decorated bar and breakfast room where a free buffet breakfast is served every morning. Rooms and apartments are decorated with lavish Venetian furnishings and flat-screen TVs (and some have patios), but taller guests should note that rooms on the top floor have slanted, low-hanging ceilings.

Hotel Al Duca di Venezia

Scene

A charming Venetian palace with traditional decor that's popular with vacationing couples

The Hotel Al Duca di Venezia is a 15th-century palace located near the Grand Canal that appeals mostly to couples, but also to families who want an authentic Venetian hotel that's close to the train station. The entrance -- which sits on a narrow Venice side street -- looks like a small palace with a red banner bearing the hotel’s name hanging from a small balcony over the front door, which is flanked on both sides by small topiaries. Inside, the small lobby features exposed wood-beamed ceilings, Murano chandeliers, traditional comfy furniture, and a small elevator.
