Bottom Line

The upper-middle-range Eurostars Embassy Hotel is a straightforward and serviceable hotel in Landtraße (Vienna’s 3rd District), outside of the city center with most attractions requiring a tram ride or taxi ride. Its 66 bright, well-appointed rooms uphold the chain’s commitment to comfort and value and have LCD flat-screen TVs, and Suites include terraces with lovely views. On the downside, there's nothing particularly Austrian about the atmosphere or decor, which can be described as "contemporary chain hotel." And on-site features are fairly limited to meeting rooms, a computer workstation, and breakfast service -- there's no full restaurant or bar. Given those limitations, this Eurostar falls short of its advertised "upscale" status. For more amenities at similar prices, guests may prefer the Holiday Inn Vienna City.

Oyster Hotel Review

Eurostars Embassy Hotel

Scene

Contemporary upper-middle-range hotel with pleasant (if generic) interiors

With clean-lined, contemporary interiors, the Eurostars Embassy Hotel can feel more suited to business travelers than couples tourists or families on vacation, though leisure travelers stay here as well. Marbled tile floors in reception lead to a slim, mahogany front desk illuminated by recessed lighting, while clusters of blocky brown leather couches and chairs are paired with and simple wood tables. The casual breakfast area to the side of the reception is more functional than stylish, lacking the gloss of higher-pearl establishments. This, together with the Eurostars' limited features, betray a decidedly upper-middle-range approach, versus the supposed "upscale" rating it advertises.

Location

In a residential district, not in walking distance to most tourist attractions

Located in Vienna’s densely populated Landtraße district, the Eurostars Embassy Hotel’s surroundings are largely residential, although being on the corner of a main road does leave it susceptible to some street noise. Shopping and dining options are close by, but popular tourist sites in the city center aren't in easy walking distance, requiring at least 30 minutes to reach on foot. There is a bus stop across the street from the hotel, and tram and train stations are both within a 10-minute walk. The famous Giant Ferris Wheel, as well as Mozarthaus, are both 20 minutes away by public transport, while St. Stephen’s Cathedral, Hofburg Palace, and Belvedere Palace are all within 30 minutes by public transportation. Farther out, the Schonbrunn Palace takes an hour to reach by train. Vienna International Airport is a quick 15 to 20 minutes away by car, or 32 minutes away by public transport.

Rooms

Contemporary and comfortable, with minibars and rainfall showerheads

The modern, streamlined rooms at the Eurostars Embassy Hotel stick to neutral tones and furnishings: white walls, gray suede sofas, and modular wood furnishings. It's a clean and contemporary look lacking any artwork or bright colors. While rooms are entirely tasteful and contemporary, they're also generic and lack the "wow factor" of truly upscale properties.

Standard Rooms, at 204 square feet, have single king or double beds, air-conditioning, LCD flat-screen TVs, safes, blackout drapes, and free Wi-Fi. Deluxe Rooms add more square footage, and Suites are the largest of all and include terraces that open to beautiful Vienna views. Minibars are available in all rooms, and higher-category rooms wave the fee for their drinks and snacks. However, all rooms lack coffee- and tea-making facilities.

Bathrooms across categories are outfitted in sleek, slate-gray tiling with steel fixtures and both rainfall and handheld showerheads. Suites include shower/tub combos as well. All are stocked with hairdryers and Hierbas de Ibiza brand toiletries.

Features

Short list of features for the pearl rating, including breakfast service and free Wi-Fi

The range of amenities offered here is surprisingly limited for the pearl rating. There's no full restaurant or bar, although the hotel does provide a decent daily breakfast served in its dining room, which isn't always included in room rates. Free coffee and fruit are offered throughout the day, and there's limited room service as well.

The hotel has no fitness center, though it does offer a  “business corner,” which is really just a single computer workstation. The property has meeting rooms as well. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property as are newspapers. Other features include concierge service and laundry and dry-cleaning services (for a fee). Families can borrow cots for free, and kids under 6 eat breakfast free. Parking at the hotel’s indoor lot comes with hefty daily fees.
