Guests can mix and mingle in the colorful lobby lounge with cocktail bar, coffee stand, and a big flat-screen TV. That being said, this isn't exactly the kind of hotel where guests will spend the majority of their time hanging out -- it's a Holiday Inn after all, and is used as a reliable home base for exploring the city or attending to business. The hotel offers extensive meeting facilities, and the lobby and elevators are often filled with conference-goers, but its central location also draws tourists.

Holiday Inn Munich - City Centre is in a central Munich complex with supermarkets, shops, restaurants, bakeries, and a pharmacy, and close to public transportation links. The hotel is in the vibrant Haidhausen district, which has several shops, restaurants, cafes, bars, and clubs. The hotel is across from the Gasteig cultural center, home to the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra. The Rosenheimer Platz S-Bahn station is located within the same complex as the hotel, and the AM Gasteig light rail station is a five-minute walk away. Max-Weber-Platz U-bahn station is a three-minute drive, 10-minute light rail ride, or 15-minute walk, while Munich Central Station is a 10-minute drive. The Deutsches Museum is billed as the world's largest museum of science and technology -- it's on the Isar River, a five-minute walk from the hotel. The famous Hofbrahaus am Platzl beer hall is about 15 minutes away by light rail or walking. Located eight minutes away by S-bahn, Marienplatz has been Munich's main square since 1158, and it's home to the Old City Hall and New City Hall and its glockenspiel. The middle of the English Garden, Munich's largest park, is about 25 minutes away by a combination of light rail and walking. A couple minutes' walk beyond the Marienplatz is the Frauenkirche (Cathedral of Our Dear Lady). Munich International Airport is a 30-minute drive from the hotel or 40 minutes by S-Bahn from Rosenheimer Platz.

The Holiday Inn Munich - City Centre's 582 rooms have simple, modern look. Renovated rooms have details like abstract wall accents, retro-modern seating, and chic color schemes plus on-trend veneer furniture. Rooms get lots of natural light, though many guests have reported noise issues from neighboring rooms and traffic. Some rooms are a bit small, but not by Munich city hotel standards. Rooms all come with desks, coffee/tea makers, free Wi-Fi, and flat-screen TVs, which don't have many English-language channels. Suites have living rooms with sofa beds. Bathrooms are clean and well lighted, and all come with showers and hairdryers, but not all have tubs; some have bathrobes.

Despite it's mid-range status, this Holiday Inn has a nice amount of features on offer, which are a bit surprising given its urban setting. Guests can walk to Muller'sches Volksbad and use (for a fee) the Art Nouveau public swimming pool, sauna, and steam bath. The hotel has no on-site fitness center, but guests can use the excellent fitness facilities in the adjacent retail complex for a discounted fee. A jogging trail runs along the river, about a five-minute walk from the hotel.

The breakfast buffet (for a fee) includes cooked-to-order eggs, bacon, smoked salmon, toast, cakes, breads, cereal, yogurt, fruit, coffee, and a variety of juices. The restaurant serves modern Bavarian and international cuisine for lunch and features a live cooking station. The 24-hour lobby lounge has a coffee stand and a stylish cocktail bar, and serves take-out fare, business lunches, and dinners with international and regional dishes. Billing itself as one of the largest conference hotels in southern Germany, the hotel offers extensive meeting and catering services. There's also has a business center, 24-hour front desk, and underground parking (for a fee). Wi-Fi is free throughout.
